A coming of age/learn who you are story. At times I found the writing unnecessarily detailed (I don’t need to know how you fixed the schedule at work specifically). But overall it was reflective and sometimes relatable.

How I discovered: The bright cover stood out to me and I kept seeing the book mentioned online

What I liked: I appreciated Maddie's honest and authentic voice, she was relatable and seemed very "real." This was a very modern and believable coming of age story. We watch Maddie evolve and grow over the course of the book, deal with her grief and depression, and learn to trust herself.

What I didn't: There wasn't anything I didn't like, per se. I found myself getting a little bored toward the end of the book, but the author wrapped it up nicely.

What I learned: My experience as a 20-something woman was a while ago - but the themes of family, relationships, power dynamics, mental health are timeless.

Quote: “How do you know if you're genuinely happy or if you're just mostly all right, with sprinkles of laughter and occasional shit storms of sadness?”

Recommended: I don't think this is a "must-read" but I would recommend for a light read.

The sexual assault b this wasn’t really identified when I was looking at triggers… or maybe I didn’t catch it. Either way, it’s hitting too close to home and I don’t really think I can continue with this book which is really unfortunate because I otherwise like it.
