I liked the book and maddie but i feel like i might either not have been in the right mood to read this or im just not the right target audience. Reading about someone trying to “grow up” when they are already technically an adult and trying to be like everyone else but making a lot of mistakes on the way just isn’t really my thing i guess.

Especially her dating life and trying to go out partying and all that just wasn’t something i like reading bc you just know it’s gonna be messy and not in a good and fun way.

I know it wasn’t just about her wanting to experience dating and sex but also finding out who she really is as a person and her (Ghanian) identity and actually dealing with her mental health. And I’m glad maddie got her happy ending in the end but im emotionally exhausted from all that second hand anxiety

The second half the book was much better than first. Maybe I would give it 2.5 stars. Wouldn’t rush to read it.

This book was pretty good. My only problem was the pacing, it felt a bit fast paced for my liking. The story felt connected and impactful. Maddie was a dynamic character, she acted as both a good person and a bad person throughout the story. I appreciated her mental health story and that this book did involve cultural moments and gave me a view of a life I will never be able to experience for myself.

Some of these reviewers are really worked up about Maddie being a late bloomer lol

I personally appreciated the representation, especially when it comes to not experiencing certain things because of religious upbringing

The writing brought me right into Maddie’s world, and overall I found her character very endearing. Some parts were slow but overall it was a nice slice-of-life story about coming of age in your twenties (complimentary!)
