Got nearly to the end and didn’t finish. sadly I had to return the book to the library, I’ve had a manic few days and just not got around to reading, but I think this one would have def been four stars.

Really liked the Lucien/Kit storyline. But the psychic stuff felt rather contrived, and I could really do without the sadomasocistic subplot -- yuck!

Really enjoyed the first half until the emphasis on twin ESP, and then I started skimming a lot.

Ridiculous in the way that old-school romances excel at. We had kidnapping, identical twins sensing each other and sharing visions, BDSM, an underground sex club... I was a little unsure of what exactly was going on for the first part of the book, but then things began to be explained and fall into place.
Like other Putney books I've read, the tone is quiet (despite all the plot points!) and the pace is very slow--until it's not. This was fun.

Reread 2024 - dropped to 3 ⭐️
I don’t know if my taste in books has changed or if I’ve just read some really fantastic stories since the last time I read this series.
Things I liked:
I don’t know if my taste in books has changed or if I’ve just read some really fantastic stories since the last time I read this series.
Things I liked:
- The first part of the book where Lucien is chasing the mystery woman
- Kit’s cleverness
- Some parts of the twin bond
- Michael and Jason
Things I didnt like:
- Kit’s Self doubt and feelings of inadequacy being brought up over and over
- Some parts of the twin bond
- Lucien seemed like a shadow of the man he was in Thunder and Roses. He became less likable to me.

With one book left for me to read in the series, this one is my favorite. Lucien is a spymaster, but the woman he meets in his investigation of the Hellions, Kit Travers, is more than his match. There were so many twists in this book, and it was a journey I thoroughly enjoyed. I don't want to spoil the story, but it's a great tale with lots of hair-raising escapades.

This was a great pick to break my boredom and fit a "red" category challenge.
So I was a bit bored and not compelled to pick up the two books that I had started, so I decided I needed to go to a nice historical romance and see if it would compel me. Well it did. I immediately liked both the characters and wanted to know more. Both are trying to investigate the Hellion Club members but in their own ways and for their own reasons. We are not sure of Kit's reasoning for a long time. This Putney stretches out a bit too long but is quite fun once it is revealed. The characters have great chemistry.
Like Putney's [b:The Marriage Spell|692947|The Marriage Spell|Mary Jo Putney|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1320398251s/692947.jpg|679276], this had a bit of psychic and magical bonds but not quite to that extent. If you don't like the psychic bonds and divination, you might not like this as it does have that paranormal bent. I like my paranormal.
The ending has a bit of TSTL moments from a couple of characters and there is a bit of silliness that takes away from the chemistry but other than that a great read.

lucien, master spy, working for the crown, runs up against a mysterious adversary, kit travers, she is looking for her sister and is not above using his lust for her to find the sister first. some of it is interesting but mostly it's a skim.
