I adored this so much. Fake dating has yet to steer me wrong.

It's reminiscent of Crazy Rich Asians without overstaying its welcome or being derivative. It's cozy and cute and heartwarming. The characters and family dynamics are so fun and lovely, and the story is high-stakes without feeling stressful.

The third act conflict certainly doesn't over stay it's welcome but it happens at the exact right time, and overall I think the pacing in general is very good for a romance novel in my opinion.

And while it's not spicy since it's a teen book, it's not chaste. There's cheeky refs and jokes throughout, which lends it towards still being a mature story and this is helped with the heavy themes of family trauma and death and grief being very well realized without having it beaten over your head.

Also, the book is so unabashedly Asian. Singaporean cuisine, Asian culture, and Chinese mythology and history are so well intertwined, and omg the descriptions of the food made me so hungry

I did also shed tears towards the end which was a pleasant surprise! I am so glad I read this and I would definitely read another romance from this author.

I was somehow not expecting it to be a YA but that's on me. I felt like the writing wasn't the best, felt like reading fan fiction on watpad. A lot of things that happen out of no where and a lot of things apearing just for the plot to continue to roll. There is a lot of things i would change of the writing but it was a cute and fun story + I'm a socker for fake dating.
