First off, Elizabeth Zott is totally badass. Like, she embodies feminism and she's also so witty and funny. Initially, I didn't even like Calvin, but as soon as Elizabeth did, I did also.
I would read this book anywhere. I read the key plot twist on a bus and I literally had to take a moment. It winded me. This book was full of things I didn't see coming, and full of larger than life characters. Mad, Six-Thirty, that preist dude. The plot was like a fantasic soup.
I think the TV show is good, but strays from the book a little. It's fine though, as it just makes the characters easier to visualise. I reccomend the TV show too.
I think it's such a fifties book. It is very clearly set in the fifties. I liked the ending. I liked the repersentation of greif.
Overall, it's a good book. Would reccomend, and in fact I already have.

I liked it a lot….so parts a bit weird like the dog talking but I a really good read/watch for a sick day
As a 21st century scientist who happens to be female, I'm ashamed to not have half the gall of Elizabeth Zott, honestly I picked up this book twice in the past and gave up due to the graphic sexual assault scene and I think that could be a valid reason to skip over some books, but it is such a realistic book that I would recommend to anyone with interest in chemistry and human rights, I'm in love with the depiction of the women in the book being forced into domestic obedience and to give up their dream yet still finding strength through Zott to break those norms, Zott by every meaning of the word is fictional, in the way that she is so absolutely intelligent in spite of not having the previlige to attend school and yet so naive in ways of people as most smart people are, but it only makes her more lovable and the book much smoother to read.
If I say this book is full of plot twists it would be an understatement, I have a special place in my heart for the end of 1960s because that's when women's movements finally made sense in the US, and there are like a few men in this book that deserve respect for not having toxic masculinity who had a small part in allowing some space in a man's world for a woman with potential to shine.
There are some really heartbreaking stuff in this book that I don't see people talk about often, the misogyny STEM women still face to this day, OH THE CHEMISTRY OH MY GOD! (I mean the real thing, get your brain out the gutter), love and support found in the most bleakest times and honestly the romance? I did not expect it to be so clean and transcendent of all the norms I read in general fiction books and with so much respect coming from an athiest character, it's such an eye opening book for most people and a warm hug (after absolutely shattering your heart and then setting fire to it) for the people who have been through similar situations.

Amazing, it was perfect from start to finish.

maybe 3.5?
For the first 40%, I did not really enjoy this book (mostly the relationship between Calvin and Elizabeth) and I actually considered not finishing it. I did like the second half though, and I loved the message of the book!
