Really good! Read this in only a couple of days. Interesting premise. Haven't read another like it. Strong female characters, and I liked that Kalinda knew here strengths and weaknesses. She wasn't suddenly some crazy strong warrior in combat. She was weak in that area, although she did well with a sling shot. She was David going up against Goliath, Goliath by Tarek the Rajah. Can't wait to read the next book!
I really loved this book. The writing is beautiful and the exotic, Arabian feel world described immediately draws the reader in. Kali makes for a perfect heroine; an orphan girl forced to marry a man she increasingly grows to despise. As the book progresses, Kali is forced to discover truths about herself and her heritage, and somehow find a way to win the tournament to protect her throne, whilst finding a way to be with the man she truly loves. With a perfect balance of magic, heart-wrenching tension and forbidden romance, this is a must read for any lover of a well written fantasy.
My Review: OMG I really kind of forgot how much I loved this book!! From beginning to end it was a beautiful story and one that I enjoyed rereading. This one starts off with the world abusing women and slowly changes with the help of Kali. I really can not wait to start the next title. As I remember nothing of what happens. This is one story where the men think they hold all the power but it's really the women that are in charge. This is one story that will make you both happy and sad and it will rip out your heart by the end.

Trigger warning - The book is about institutionalized rape. Yeah, it's supposed to be about a girl rising up from oppression blah blah blah, but in reality it's solely about rape. Save yourself the misery of reading this trash.
Kalinda has lived a rather solitary life in a mountain convent, a ward of the Sisterhood. Beset by childhood fevers, she has never become the kind of warrior she might have been. She knows, however, that the expectation is for her to do her best, especially when it comes to The Claiming. The Claiming where young women of the convent are taken to live as the servants or wives of whomever can afford it - and Kalinda will have no say in the matter. So when Rajah Tare arrives and instead of choosing someone beautiful and strong, he chooses HER for his hundredth wife, she has no choice to join him in the palace with all his other wives and courtesans. The more she learns about palace life and, the more it seems as though she has no choice but to fight and play the role that Rajah Tare has chosen for her - unless she can use her own wits to find another way.
It's a fast enough read - the world building isn't awesome but it's different enough to be intriguing. The setting is definitely a pseudo-India, although I would've liked it to be fleshed out a bit more and sometimes her word choice and dialogue jarred me out of the world she created (like the word "dolt"). The romantic plot was rather insta-love, which isn't my favorite. The plot moved quickly enough to keep me interested and several plot twists in the latter part of the book are making me, despite the annoying things, care enough to want to read the second book. I'm hoping to see more girl power and solidarity as opposed to the catty infighting that was there for much of this book.
note: while there isn't any graphic sex, the idea of sex and courtesan life is a big part of the plot - I wouldn't recommend for young teens

I really enjoyed this book. It was a little more brutal than I was expecting. I loved how much fighting was in the book, and the message of uniting together. The love story aspect wasn't my favorite though.
I discovered this in kindle unlimited. I truly enjoyed the plot of the Hundredth Queen by Emily King. The author weaves a story of innocence that is not lost but enlightened by unforeseen situations and circumstances.
Kalinda knows nothing of her beginning in life. The only life she knows is the one taught by the sisters art the temple. Her best friend is her only family. A mysterious visitor to the temple will introduce her to Devon and place her on a journey that will lead her to a palace where secrets and manipulation are the norm.
Kalinda will have to be strong to resist the temptation to conform to the petty behaviour of the Kindred and the courtesans. Join her as she remains true to herself and her ideals.

3.5 I liked it. Very predictable... and I almost didn't care for the romance (what? Me?) But I will keep reading!
Also, yay for finishing a book!! Going to have to rethink that yearly goal.

The Hundredth Queen is a beautifully crafted story. Kalinda is a champion. I loved her virtues and vulnerability and how she transformed into an impressive force to be reckoned with. Tarek was written well, as were all the characters. Each character was a well-developed mystery that I enjoyed immensely. Deven was wonderful, really all the character were. Some were surprising and unexpected. The story was heart pounding and well done. It was violent at times, but written accurately. Many exciting twists.
5 out of 5 stars. I am eagerly awaiting the next book!
