This was good! I liked their dynamics and that there wasn't too much drama. Exactly what I was looking for, a nice quick easy to read fun romance.
I adore any story that can somehow balance all the snarky banter and obnoxious antics with a genuine emotional connection between two people. That is all here and more. Atlas and Troy are both loyal to their parents who honestly needed to have been more caring and loyal to Atlas and Troy. Atlas really changes, adapts and grow in this story. With everything with his dad to then realizing he might just be attracted to a guy, and not just any guy... I loved they acted their age, yet they both had a bit of underlying maturing due to all the family drama they survived. They really were the only one each of them could honestly deep down understand. Yes, I loved the deep emotional connection that I could feel flowing off the page, but I have to mention the intimate scenes were smoking hot fun too!
This was so so good! I was not expecting it to be as emotional as it was. Atlas and Troy are so perfect for each other and I’m really glad there was no third act break up. I can’t wait for Colin and Ash’s book next! I also really want a Brenner and Taylor book.
ok…
let me start by saying i received this ARC & am leaving my honest review.
i’ve sat on this one for a few days, as i’ve finished it on wednesday, i believe. this week hasn’t been a very good one for me and so i think that played into my feelings regarding this book.

+1 for my level of surprise at how invested I got in this genre of romance that I've been avoiding for a year, +1 for giving me my all-time favorite trope of hard and guarded for everyone but soft for you (Atlas better get more hugs in book 2, I just want that for him), -1 for the excessive use of the word 'hole,' and here we are!

Possessiveness is a main theme throughout this book- and is so well done. I noted over 50+ instances of the MCs claiming the other or referencing claiming, such as "he's mine," and "I'm his," and "my [adjective] Atlas." Both MCs have a strong possessiveness of the other. As they work through those feelings and learn to communicate with one another (and others in their lives) their relationship feels both earned and equal.
The possessiveness of course feeds the spice. References include marking and branding (no actual branding takes place). Notable chapters include 18, 19, 22, 25, 26, 29, and 35.
Side note, the substance abuse referenced in the story was written and handled with care, communicating harsh realities without glorifying substance abuse nor villifying judgment of those affected. (There is a lovely quote on p.181 that exemplifies this.)
