Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

The book is set a couple years after the first book in the trilogy. Since it has been a year since I read the previous book, I was a little worried I would be lost but the way the author slipped in past events made it very easy to follow and remember what had happened.

After Troy was defeated, he was thrown into prison for 2 years. Constantly being drugged to suppress his magic. When he finally comes to, he is lost. Lost in more ways than one. He has no idea where he is, who he is, who he was, nothing.

As time goes on, Ian starts remembering, including names of people who have done him wrong. He tries to figure out who he once was and his ties to the crown. All while trying to put things back together before the reign of Draken of Langor.

I have been in love with this author since I read the first book in this trilogy last year. I really enjoy this author’s writing. They are very focused and show a lot of attention and care with everything they write. Each character comes to life and the writing style in all of their books makes you lose yourself in the fantasy world. This book was no different. I enjoyed this book a little more than the first as it was more dark and twisted. I would highly recommend this book and anything else this author writes!

The Crown of Stones: Magic Scars is book two in the series, and continues the story after Magic-Price. CL Schneider has such a way with words, I can easily envision the characters and their whole world. I still find it fascinating how she is able to create and entire world and history for these fantasy novels. The book has a lot of fantasy, with the perfect mix of some romance and action. I feel like you have to read the first book in order to understand what is going on in this book, so definitely not a stand alone. I am not typically a fantasy reader, but found the book enjoyable and give it 4 stars.
The book continues the story of Ian Troy, picking up two years later. He has been imprisoned by King Draken, and has been sentenced to working in the mines. He has no magic, or memories, and has been tortured and drugged. He struggles to break free from the drugs and find himself again, and remember his past after he is freed from the mines. He slowly regains his memories, but they are not happy ones. He isnt happy with his past, and must pay a price to use his magic, which causes him quite a personal struggle, is it worth it? Can he over come his past to do what is needed in his future? Read to find out. Now on to book three to see how the story ends!

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars by CL Schneider is the second book in a fantastic series. The story of Ian Troy continues as more memories come back to him. He is trying to figure out his past so he can understand his future. The world they live in is very uncertain and dangerous. How will he work this all out?
The characters are very well written and guide the reader through a great story. I recommend reading these books in order because each book builds on the next. I have enjoyed many reads from this author and this did not disappoint.

Magic-Scars is the second book in The Crown of Stones trilogy by C.L. Schneider. I highly recommend reading the first book Magic-Price. That story will fill in the gaps so you have a better understanding of Ian Troy’s story. Schneider effortlessly continues the story with Ian. As the story goes on I am falling in love with Ian. His character has been through so much that I was feeling sorry for him. With everything he went through his magic addiction, in this story he is a prisoner for King Draken of Langor again. He is hopeless and his spirit is broken. He is trying to gain his momentum again. Will Ian get away from King Draken? Will he be able to assume his magic? What will happen to Ian? Keep reading to find out about what happens next to Ian.

The Crown of Stones: Magic Scars (Volume 2) by CL Schneider is the second book in The Crown of Stones series. This book like the first if full of fantasy, action, suspense and a little bit of romance. This story is a continuation of Ian Troy's journey to restore the power to the Crown of Stones. This story will pull you into Troy's journey and have you sitting on the edge of your seat until you find out what happens.

It is now two years later for Ian in which he has worked in the the mines doing back breaking jobs for the one man who caused him the most problems, Drakon. What will happen now that Drakon and his ally try controlling the known world? The only thing that can save the world, is the Crown of Stones and only Ian knows where it is. He has been in prisoned where he was robbed of his magic, will, and memories. How will it effect him when pieces of his memory start coming back to him? Will he handle the things he did? He tries to understand his heritage link to the Crown of Stones and the growing number of magic scars adorning his body. What secrets will he uncover that have been buried forever? Are there consequences for his magic? Things seem to fall on his shoulders, will he be able to handle it?

This is my second story by CL Schneider. CL grew up in Missiori on the river and has been an avid reader ever since with overflowing bookshelves. This is her first published series which is almost finished. She is sad to see it end but is excited to see what the future brings for her. This story is a great second part of this series and I would say, I enjoyed this book more a little more then the first. This story will pull you in and you will totally lose track of time with this one. It will have you waiting to see what happens around the next corner. This story has a little bit of everything and you will love what happens. The character pop off the page and right into your world of fantasy. I highly suggest this story as I know you will enjoy reading it as much as I have.

The second installment into the continuing journey of Ian Troy did not disappoint. The epic adventure just keeps getting better. C.L. Schneider built a dynamic world and I really enjoyed immersing myself in it. The trials and triumphs of Ian Troy and his fellow travelers endured were both exhilarating and at times sad. This epic adventure was a great continuation of Ian Troy’s story and C.L. Schneider’s dynamic world. I look forward to the final installment.

The Crown of Stones-Magic Scars is book two in the Crown of Stones trilogy. It is a fantasy adventure with Ian Troy leading the fight for good. Although, in this book, he doesn’t remember who or what he is. After being in prison for two years and on the drug, Kayn'l, that all Shinree are forced to take, he is still just a shell of a man.

“Foremost: my sickness wasn’t accidental. I’d been drugged. In prison they’d given me an elixir that dulled my senses and emotions, introducing a state of muddled compliance. In sustained, large doses, it was used to wipe out memory and free will. It made prisoners submissive and agreeable. It was the perfect slave-maker.”

Slowly Ian learns of his fate and his purpose: to free his people and help build a new kingdom, where everyone can be free and live in peace. (Sounds like what we need in the real world!) In order to do this he must remember what happened to the Crown of Stones magic. At the same time he must prevent the bad guys from figuring it out first.
There are many characters at work in this story. Some from book one and some new. There are even creatures fighting for their way of life. Malaq and Queen Neela make me guess where their loyalty lies throughout the entire story. And the clear villains, King Draken and Jem Reth, just make my blood boil!
This story was well written and kept me turning page after page. Highly recommend this book after reading book one first. I am looking forward to reading the conclusion!

Magic Scars is the second book in The Crown of Stone Series by C.L Schneider. As with the first book, this is an action-packed high fantasy- with adventure, magic, tension, drama, originality, brilliant world building, suspense, and so much more. I loved the first book, and couldn’t wait to continue the series, reading all three books pretty much back to back.
The story starts off a couple of years after the events in book one. Ian Troy had been imprisoned, tortured, and drugged to suppress his magic. He is ‘battle-scared’, both physically and mentally. The world he returns to hasn’t fared much better than him- suffering at the hands of the new High King. Ian is the only hope of freeing the people, and so there is much at stake. He carries a heavy burden of responsibility but struggles to piece his life back together again after what happened. What about The Crown of Stones- and what of his connection to it? His addiction to magic is also a problem. So, he starts searching for the answers he needs- delving into the past to find them, where he uncovers ancient secrets that have shocking implications, not just for him, but for his entire race. What price will the magic cost him this time- and will he find the resolutions he is looking for?
Again, this is pretty dark and heavy- and I was left really feeling for Ian and what he had been through, and what was still left for him to endure. Ms. Schneider world building skills are really superb, with so much attention to detail that it seemed so realistic and believable.
This fantastic series is really epic, and oh so intriguing. I very much enjoyed Ms. Schneider’s unique and very imaginative adventure. There are still a lot of threads left to tie up- but don’t worry everything comes together in the next book- Magic Borne (Book Three), which is available now to read.
I really recommend this book/series to anyone who loves an epic, action-packed fantasy!

Thank you, Ms. Schneider!

Malaq tells his brother King Draken that Ian Troy is dead. His death came about due to the collapse of a mine.

Ian Troy was captured and kept prisoner by King Drakens demand. Prisoners are kept at Darkhorne prison which is a bleak and horrifying place and kept under control with a drugs. Troy has lost his memory as a result of the drugs administered to him while he was in prison. He wakes on a ship and doesn’t remember who he is and what happened to him. Troy tries to recover his memories but gets frustrated with how slowly they are returning. As the memories start to return he wonders if it was better not knowing. Troy’s magic use and the effects it has on his body and mind leads him to wonder if he will turn out like his father, a Reth.

Malaq is building a force of people from across the lands who are willing to fight for what they believe in. Troy’s relationships are strained and he struggles to rebuild trust as he blames himself for things that he has done whilst in captivity. He discovers he has many friends, old and new, who are willing to help him as they believe that any hope they have of freedom lies with him. Troy’s quest is to restore power to the Crown of Stones with the help of others but there are consequences for the magic users when they cast.

Troy and his best friend are my favorite characters but I felt anger and sadness by the things that happen to them. This is a fast paced story, that is full of drama, action and magic. I am sure you will enjoy this journey into this magical world.

I have gotten lost in this world and didn’t want to re-emerge. The continued tale of Ian Troy was jam packed with imagery and detail, good vs evil, an amazing fantasy world. Schneider has done an incredible job with this series. I’ve loved every page and can’t wait to read more from this author.
