I enjoy reading ancient philosophy and mythology and this book gave a wonderful overview of the historic powers and ideas of empire that shaped the ancient world. I loved the fact that the book wasn't absorbed by the Roman empire as many other discussions tend to be, but also fascinating insights into empires such as the Hittites, the Gupta empire, and the Quin and Han empires.
