Epic, exciting, but it doesn't really tell a coherent story. Mike Deodato's art is lush, vibrant, and dynamic, as always. He's one of my favorite Marvel illos. While Hickman is indeed a gifted storyteller, the narrative text of this comic, rendered entirely in dialogue, is full of awkward and ungrammatical sentences and phrases. I admit, I expected somewhat more.

Jonathan Hickman.

On the one hand, I like how far his stories go. How different they are.

On the other hand, I'd like him to hold my hand a little bit. That other hand, I'd like Hickman to hold it and guide me through the story a little more.

I get confused. I don't know if it's because things move so fast or because the story is so complex, but I feel like there's a lot going on here I don't understand all the way. And that's how I feel about a lot of Hickman's work. When it's great, it's wild and smart and I am 100% on board. When it's not as great, it's because the characters seems to be talking about a bunch of stuff that I flip back and try and see if I've read about already or not.

Pushed through this to get past the Infinity nonsense. Glad it's over. Let's move on shall we?

While the characters and story continue being great, this book suffers from being a tie-in with the INFINITY story arc, and as such has HUGE jumps in plot between each individual comic, with no reference as to what happened, or even where to look for those events. A one page catch up at the beginning of each comic to let us know that so-and-so happened in Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy (for example) is necessary.

Don't buy this collection or Hickman's [b:Avengers, Volume 4: Infinity|18483919|Avengers, Volume 4 Infinity|Jonathan Hickman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1409500478l/18483919._SY75_.jpg|26161823]. They're super unsatisfying ways to read this event. It's like buying a book and only getting either the odd or even chapters. Sure, you sort of kind of a little bit get the overall story, but it will appear that everybody dies at the end of chapter three, and there's no chapter four, and in chapter five, it's like that dramatic cliffhanger ending never happened.

It's a terrible way to collect this event.

Instead just get [b:Infinity|18513586|Infinity|Jonathan Hickman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1527103514l/18513586._SY75_.jpg|26644776] and read the entire story. I'm going to hold off on my read through until I get this volume, so I can actually, hopefully, enjoy this story.

I don't recommend this version of the story. Make the investment, get the complete book.

Pretty good but not as good as I would have liked. They did a pretty good job of not including bits that were also reprinted in other books. They did not do as good as avoid repeating bits in this same book. Just way too much long speechifying, way too much plot, not enough character development and insight.

As part of the Infinity crossover event large chunks of the story are in other issues; I ended up using Wikipedia to make sense of the story.

This was lit but it would’ve been better if I’d read the previous comics and actually knew who everyone was.

It was cool to see how Thanos and his team were pretty much adapted straight from the comics though.
