Even though this is not the kind of book I typically gravitate towards, I knew I had to give it a shot when I saw how many personal Top Books of 2021 lists it was on. As expected, this book is gritty, gruesome, and action-packed.

After their sons are murdered, Ike and Buddy Lee return to a lifestyle that they left behind, a life filled with violence and crime. The people are dangerous and volatile, and they don't have much to lose.

I had to read this book slowly because the graphic details were overwhelming. The characters are well-developed and the masterful writing is undeniable. However, I don't think I was this book's target audience. The book reads just like an action movie, and I think it would translate perfectly to the screen. There were periods in the middle that lulled, but the ending was very satisfying.

Book was entertaining, the plot was interesting, the characters developed, and I very much enjoyed the whole story. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars is because there were many too unrealistic moments and the end was expected.

Still a very fine book.
