Overall this book had me hooked; there were definitely areas where more editing could be done, and I did find near the end it was almost too much smut and not enough plot, however I feel like the story began to pick up again in the last 2 chapters and has given me hope for book 2.

Raven is such a strong FMC after everything she’s been through, what a badass!!

Curious to see how it all unfolds in the second book. I just know Axel is at the heart of allllll of this 😒

Can’t wait to see Mav grovel and finally fully accept Raven and Jonas and Damon.

One thing I will say is the book could’ve done with a round of editing. There were so many grammatical errors and weird spacing between the words kind of took me out of the story a bit.

Book that’s made bearable by listening to it. Bland characters, plot, and smut.

More of an overall series review rather than just book 1, since it's a duet and I just finished book 2.

The story is good. The writing is, unfortunately, not.

The good: I was willing to suffer through the little annoyances with the writing and immediately pick up book 2 to get to the conclusion. The audiobook is also really well done. Often with RHs, 2 of the men have distinct personalities and the other(s) are just sort of mashups of the first 2. In this book, all the of them are different, treat her differently, have slightly different kinks, and fulfill different sexual and emotional needs for the FMC. The author does have an actually compelling story to tell, and I genuinely enjoyed how it all unfolded.

The bad: the FMC is "not like the other girls"
  •  She's an emo goth who plays the cello and is a poor little rich girl who isn't concerned with the trappings of wealth and doesn't really care about prestige or boys like all the other girls
  • MMC 1 (Jonas) is a super handsome and rich jock who could have any girl he wants but of course is instantly obsessed/in love with her
  • MMC 2 (Damon) is her psychiatrist who has been treating her for years and has been obsessed the whole time and finally makes his move
  • MMC 3 (Maverick) is her professor who is also ex-FBI and has never crossed the line ever, especially not with a student, but of course just cannot resist her
The virgin trope is also way overblown. It's a very big deal to all of the men, and then once it finally happens, she is of course a perfect horny sex kitten with no boundaries, who is ready for action at all times, and who can always finish 5+ times.
There are frequent instances of misusing a word,  the author repeatedly uses the same words to describe the same things. There are whole sentences and paragraphs that don't make any sense and you kinda just have to go with it. There are a lot of disjointed conversations and things that get left off as "we'll talk soon" or "I'll tell you later" and you never learn what those things are. And my goodness, an editor and a copy editor would have been a really good thing to invest in before sending this off to be recorded for audio. Spellcheck is not a substitute for editing, or you get mistakes like "resides" instead of "subsides."

And somehow, even so, I could not put these down. I read both books in like 3 days.

Overall series thoughts, if you're thinking about making the ~900 page commitment - I would recommend this to my "vibes" reader friends. Anyone who likes their books to make sense throughout will not enjoy this series.

Reasons you might DNF, if these bother you:
- improper use of words (ex. a nightclub's vibe is described as "tabooer")
- no copy-editing, so quite a few spelling and grammar errors
- frequently repeated descriptions and phrases
- erroneous plot points and conversations that go nowhere
- I had to re-read some sentences/paragraphs because the author would full-on skip words/phrases/punctuation, and sometimes I just made assumptions based on context because otherwise I had no idea

If you're not scared off by those things and like these things, you'll enjoy this series:
- reverse harems where the men have actually all different personalities
- dark romance (both the relationships and the world are dark - 2 of the men are her professor and her psychiatrist, are 10 years her senior and not-quite-groom her) with plenty of kink exploration and even a bi awakening for 2 of the men
- mysteries that have some obvious answers but still keep you guessing on the last of the details until the end
- a lot of smut (like a lot), that is fairly decent at not being too repetitive (with the exception of the dirty talk, which is fairly similar throughout)
- a pretty well-developed plot that, once you're in, makes it hard to put the book down
