Eliza and Paulina are two of the greatest female characters I’ve read. Allende’s imagination and passionate writing brings them storming to life. So immersed in a book that really is ‘just’ a domestic drama. A mythological drama, with mythological characters. Loved it.

I know Portrait in Sepia is often one of the least favorite of Allende’s novels, but I still love it. The two latter sections feel rushed, but the story beautifully bridges Daughter of Fortune to the House of the Spirits. To me, this novel was breathtaking.

Isabel Allende, con 3 de sus libros leídos encuentro increíblemente placentero cómo le hace justicia a sus personajes, son personajes con vida propia, problemas, tan humanos como cualquiera, tal vez es lo que más admiro de su escritura, excepcional.

I just couldn't quite get into this book fully. At the beginning it took me a while to get all the family connections between the characters. Then when I started getting interested in their story they became secondary characters and so it kind of lost the momentum that it had been gaining.
