robin hobb you are an insane woman. INSANE. how could you do this to me???
i won’t humiliate myself further by explaining what this book did to me. WHAT THIS SERIES DID TO ME.
am i expected to just… go on with my miserable life now? i. dont. think. so.
in a more serious note, robin hobb is exactly what i look for in an author. a strong, powerful voice, political intrigue and an insanely amount of raw PAIN.

Reread : 22.10.2023
It was a mixed bag of emotions, while some parts were extremely boring, others were exciting and interesting.
I will maintain my previous rating of 3 stars

I thought this was off to a great start. I loved the first chapter, which already made me emotional. As the book went on, however, it started to feel very meandering and like the author was a bit lost in the pacing. The writing also got more repetitive and it felt like I was just wandering around until the plot would move forward.
As I got to the halfway point though, things started happening and it got really interesting. It really added some things to the world that I loved. I have marked quite some favorite character moments, and found myself thinking about some emotional events that happened even while at work.
I don't really know what to make of the ending. On one hand, I thought it was perfect and fitting, but I can also see some flaws and how it doesn't really fit the pacing of the rest of the book. But the pacing was, I think, in general a thing I struggled with in this book.

I'm really excited to continue with the next trilogy! I will take a little break from this world for now.

This trilogy was quite a ride. And not a bad one.Was it the best one I read? Absolutely not. But still, I find myself connected to it deeply. This may be due to Robin Hobb and her masterful writing. Since this is the first trilogy, it makes sense that it's possibly the weakest one. Or at least, I enjoyed Liveship Traders more. However, overall, I really did like it. I grew to love many characters, especially Fool, Verity and Nighteyes (sorry Fitz). Not to mention the relationship between Fool and Fitz?? Hello?? Anyways. The first half of this book was rather slow for me, ngl. The second half made up for it tho. I especially loved the parts where they just bonded, without too much happening around them. I was sad for many reasons, and some things even weirded me out a bit😭 Iykyk. I was happy for many reasons too. The Fool's humor is impeccable. I cannot even begin to express how much love I hold for him. As for Fitz, that is rather complicated. He's definitely not someone I fell in love with. Not that I don't care about him. I do and I wish the best for him. I'm just not happiest with some of his choices, even while understanding why he made them. His personality isn't much to my liking either. But he did what he could with the poor cards that he had been served. All in all, I am looking forward to seeing more of the characters and where life takes them in the next books.
