Well, guess this book was okay. The first few chapters I quite liked it, eventually I got a bit bored and started to skim the pages. Also have to say that the english was pretty hard to understand for a non-nativ English speaker. My favorite character was Winn and I also enjoyed reading about Buttons. Also, Delly was an interesting character to read about and I was a fan of the criticism of classisim that was portrayed through the plot and interactions/dialogues. Don't know what to think about the romance plot though, I hoped for a slow burn but it was the total opposite.
All in all it was an okay read.

I have such a mixed reaction to this book. Personally, I like that it returned to the world introduced in Unnatural Magic, but it could be confusing or off-putting for someone who picked up this book without having read the earlier book, especially since it's easy to miss that they're at all related.

Overall, I feel like this story had its moments but could have benefited from more editing to tighten up the story and flesh out the characters. Sometimes the characters' actions felt too ill-conceived and/or conveniently timed to advance the plot. The accents and slang helped establish the world but at times veered into being heavy-handed and confusing. The intrigue wrapped up surprisingly quickly -- I kept expecting something to go wrong, or an earlier character to reappear, or someone to actually be working for the other side.

I look forward to seeing what C. M. Waggoner writes next. Even if this one had a few moments that missed the mark, I quite enjoyed getting more adventures in this world!

Even for a fantasy novel, this book has a LOT of made-up words. The entire novel is written in hilarious cockney jargon, which was great and hilarious to start, but I think got in the way of the storytelling toward the end. I found myself having to reread to follow what was going on.

This is everything I've ever wanted in a book!  From the romance to the plot to the beautiful and naturally-humorous narration style, it feels like I've been waiting forever to find a fantasy like this.  Delly and Winn's relationship was so warm and natural; I haven't read many (or any?) books where the romance is set up quite the same.
Although there's a lot of holding back for propriety etc., they get together probably 1/4 of the way through, which means we get to see them as an established couple and get to know their dynamic as such, all the while knowing that's not a guarantee of things going right for them in Leiscourt.
