I thought this book was going to be a sequel to unnatural magic, and I was a little disappointed that it was not. That said, once I got over that I really enjoyed it. It’s the same world and I was happy to see the Author build on that. It was a little bit long in places, but the characters were lovable, and I was happy to follow them through their bumbling adventures.

after being delighted by unnatural magic, i was not let down by the story of tsira and jeckran’s daughter and her con artist wife. the language and voice of this are so silly and elaborate in a very 19th century style that i really enjoyed.

“Delly rummaged through the metaphorical dusty attic of her early religious education, found a heavily creased and yellowed prayer at the bottom of a metaphorical packing crate, and did her best to pray it.”

delly is such a dumpster fire of a person and yet you can’t help rooting for her. i need a third book in this series so i can get more of her and winn being cute and domestic and also so they can FINALLY bone.

the pacing did feel off in the second half, first dragging, then speeding to the resolution, but overall really enjoyed this one

I didn't realize there was another in this series before this one.  I don't know that I needed to read it in order, but it might have helped with understanding and following the world-building, which was complex and the reader is just dropped into.  Also, I didn't realize this dealt with themes of illegal drug use, which I tend to try to avoid.
