It started off extremely slow for me. I almost DNF'd it at multiple points. The second half was significantly better. I will probably read the sequel just to see where she takes the series. I feel like it was probably better to read in French, as I feel that some of the translations were off a bit. I had to google a word in the middle. I've never had to do that before lol.
very little happened in this book and yet it was oddly entrancing but so none of the questions i had were answered so i’m still lost as to what the actual real plot is nevertheless i’m enthralled
Set in a world where the Earth has fragmented into independent celestial islands called Arks, lives a museum curator named Ophelia. Ophelia, who has the ability to read objects and to mirror travel, has dedicated her life to her museum, and has no interest in marriage. However, she soon finds herself in an arranged marriage to a cold and distant man called Thorn, and is forced to leave her own Ark and travel to his, the Pole Ark, to be married. On this new Ark, Ophelia finds herself embroiled in the politics and intrigue of the local Court.
The first half of the book is a little slow, and it took me a while to be interested in Ophelia. However, as Ophelia becomes embroiled in the politics of the Pole Ark in the second half of the book, she becomes more interesting and the plot moves along at a decent pace. The book’s magic system is interesting and the world building is engaging. Overall, despite a slow start, I found the story enjoyable, although I never felt fully engaged with any of the characters.

I don’t understand the hype for this series based on this first book. It was so boring. Literally nothing happened, it was just 500 pages of world building and setting the stage for something to hopefully happen in the next book? I’m only continuing to book 2 since I’ve already bought it and read the reviews that book 2 is when the story gets good. We’ll see.
L’univers était créatif mais je ne me suis pas attachée aux personnages
The beginning is kinda slow and it does not come close to Harry Potter, but I overall really liked it. The world building is really well done, I can picture the story in my head easily.
Though I did not like thorn and his whole „I’m a bad dude you will never like me and I’m unfriendly af“ attitude.
Still, I can’t wait to read the second part.

This was interesting! Wacky world building which was fun but the YA-ness of it all wasn’t really for me
