Decent book, short story that pads out The Rising Storm, doesn't add a lot though or invoke many feelings. Fun little adventure!

this was fun !! i liked how this book tied in more with the rising storm because there’s such a huge battle in that book and it was cool to see another side of it. ram is an absolute delight and i love him with all of my heart. the padawans are really sticking out to me over the course of all these high republic books. these kids carry the weight of the world on their shoulders and i applaud them for it. i can’t wait to read high republic adventures vol 2 and see what else ram, lula, and zeen are up to.

A nice introduction to the High Republic era with good explanatory context for kids. Light and action packed. Started off a bit slow and then the second half is a pretty intense battle. Definitely gave me a taste and now I need to check out some of the other High Republic stuff.

I absolutely adored this story. It happens at the same time as The Rising Storm, following Ram, the padawan we met in the jail, as he and another padawan Lula try to restore comms on Valo during the Nihil attack. I've really enjoyed the middle grade stories focused on the young members of the Jedi - the ones now thrust into a world of unbalance, struggling to find their place while being guided by Jedi that really have only experienced a life of peace in the galaxy. Oddly enough, there feels like a little more deliberate character development and obviously a lot less politics, setup, etc. And more action. I also liked the lighthearted feel of certain moments in this story - yes this is a horrible attack, but Star Wars, despite being about war, has those comedic moments and this book didn't disappoint - V-18 constantly getting upgraded and the Drengir calling human "MEATS." Easily read in one sitting.
