A very enjoyable sequel to the the Lefthanded booksellers of London. I must admit I would have probably benefited from a reread of the first book. But this stands well on its own and has enough tension to keep the reader interested.

Nix needed to do a much better job to make Susan's obsession with mundanity make sense. What's most odd is he managed in keys to the kingdom, but here, Susan just doesn't convince me. Given that this is the central conflict, it cannot be weak, but by god was it feeble.
Extra annoyed because Susan ends the book by mistaking her disgusting ego and selfishness and grandstanding, which should by rights kill all of her allies, for virtue. Sickening.

Typical Nix quirkiness. Who wouldn’t love a world where booksellers are the guardians of magic?

Not as entertaining as the last book. It felt flat and not as fun or exciting like the last book. The plot wasn’t as well written and the characters seemed to lack the original charm that hooked me on the last one. But it was still a decent read.
