hoofdpersoon [mijn naam] was af en toe een iets te herkenbaar personage ondanks een leven dat weinig aansluit bij het mijne en toch maakte Veldman dat leven zo ontzettend invoelbaar ik stond ook op dat huisfeestje te luisteren naar de man die iets wist over wijn, plaatste mijn wang op een printer overwoog wat printers (en andere dingen) niet zijn voelde een fight/flight/freeze opkomen op het moment dat de coach begon over ambities. wat Veldman meesterlijk doet is balanceren op de rand van ironie en satire en ze blijft zo stevig op die rand dat ik [mijn naam] ondanks af en toe stevig en soms zelfs cynisch maatschappelijk commentaar hartstikke bleef geloven en het boek zelf niet cynisch werd. het stream of consciousnessachtige (?) verloop van het narratief ook veel sterren.

I would’ve rated this a 5 but the change in perspective was abrupt and disrupted the feeling of the narrators mind running and took me out of her mindset. I didn’t think that the book needed that or the like outside perspective that I think it was supposed to provide. I liked the ambiguity of being in the narrators mind and not knowing what was real and what was anxiety and paranoid

This is a book about an incredibly anxious woman who is allergic to stress and the relationship she forms with her work printer. She sits in her office all day talking to "him" until, unsurprisingly, her boss thinks she's losing her mind and puts her on leave.

This book does not have much in the way of a plot, which is not an issue for me but may be for some. I recognised a lot of my own experience with anxiety in her inner ramblings and her struggle to function in the world, so maybe that's why I enjoyed the read more than I was expecting to. If you like weird books that are mostly vibes, you'll probably enjoy this.
