“You did good,” she praises me, making me laugh as I nod. “Uncle Matthew said you could have scored at least four times if you shot the puck.”

“Okay.” I take a deep exhale. “I don’t know how to say this, so I think I’m just going to come right out and say it.” He just waits for me. “I’m the father of Abigail’s baby,” I say the words out loud and watch his face. It goes from worry to confusion and then to shock, followed by a loud gasp. His hand flies to the top of his head before he jumps up. “Why would you tell me this?” he shrieks. “Oh my God, how could you tell me this?”
...
“You need to leave now and go and bare your truth so I can bear mine.” He grabs the shirt I just took off and tosses it to me. “Like right now.” He then grabs my keys and phone and holds them out for me. “The sooner, the better.” “Are you serious?” I ask, putting on the shirt. “I have never been more serious in my life,” he assures me, his chest rising and falling. “It’s ten o’clock.” He looks at his Apple Watch. “Get on the plane in an hour, that’s eleven, get to New York in, what… three hours, if you tell the pilot to gun it.” I roll my lips. “So sitting down with Justin at four his time. I can tell Vivienne at three thirty our time.” He puts his hand on his head. “This is huge.”

“Of course, you’re the father,” she mumbles. “I can’t even believe you are asking me this.” “Well, how was I supposed to actually know,” I answer back to her question and then my head hangs down and the tears come to me. “Why didn’t you tell me?” I ask as she looks at me with her own tears in her eyes. She opens her mouth to say something but nothing comes out. “How could you keep this from me?”
...
“You can be as involved as you want to be,” she assures me and I glare at her now. “How involved I want to be?” I ask her the question, hoping I didn’t hear it right. “Yes. This must be a shock to you.” “A shock to me?” I look at her. “A shock. It’s so much more than that.” I swallow down the rage that wants to come up. “I can’t even put into words what I’m feeling right now,” I tell her, and tears come out of my eyes. I don’t even bother wiping them off at this point. “You have no idea the guilt I carry.” The sob wants to escape, but I push it down. “The guilt that I try to make up for every day.” I shake my head. “I missed all the firsts,” I say, the guilt coming to the surface. “The guilt that eats away at me every time I sit down, and my mind wonders about her, hopefully feeling like I didn’t desert her. Or that she thought I didn’t fucking care.” The thought guts me. “First heartbeat, first picture, first breath. First cry, first smile.” I’m gutted again. “First time she crawled. The first time she took a step. The first time she fell and got hurt, I wasn’t there for her. I missed it all. It was ripped away from me.” I can’t help the broken way my voice is. “And I vowed to myself that the next time it happened. The next time I had a child, it would be different. I was not going to miss anything.” “I’m never going to keep you away,” she says, her voice cracking too. “You did, though, by not telling me.”

I was so excited for this book, but it kinda feel flat for me. I listen to this book in audio and I struggled with the narration. This is a friends to lover but the way some of the interactions happen they are more just acquaintances.

Sweet and emotional, Madison has done it again with Tristan and Abigail's story. These two have secretly had feelings for each other for a few years, but neither ever wanted to do anything about it. Lucky for them though, single-dad Tristan and his daughter are invited on Abigail’s family’s annual summer trip, and things take a turn for them. But will Tristan and Abigail figure out how to make things work, or will secrets destroy their chances before they’ve really had a chance to start?

Tristan and Abigail certainly have their steamier moments, but their story is more about the tension between them and sweeter moments. I absolutely love how cute they are together, and the occasional awkward moments between them were some of my favorites. Tristan is basically the definition of a swoony single dad, and Abigail couldn’t be more likeable. I enjoyed the uncertainty they each felt, and seeing how they navigate everything made it so I needed to find out how their story played out. Add in Tristan’s teammates/Abigail’s family, and we get a perfectly rounded cast of characters.

These two are meant to be together, and their romance is sweet but rife with anticipation. This is another must read form this author, and I can’t wait to see what’s next in the series.

When we last saw Abigail she was just a teen volunteering at the hospital. Now she's all grown up and a registered nurse. (I'll admit, it took me a little bit to get over her being an adult now.) If you haven't read it yet, she plays a small, yet pivotal role in Made for Me, where we also first meet the Hero of this book, Tristan. While this book can be read as a stand alone, I would encourage you to read that one first to have a little more knowledge of Tristan's background, which does have an affect on this book. You won't be lost if you don't, but you'll have a better understanding of his character and his actions. Both of them have been in love with the other from afar for many years now, though neither has said anything to the other, both thinking the other doesn't see them in THAT way. But when left alone while on a big family vacation, the two finally connect on that level. A few months later (after little to no contact) and Whoops. Someone's pregnant. Now, he has to deal with another surprise baby and she has to deal with her feelings and be brave enough to tell him the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. As usual, all the other family members bring some added laughs. Even with the humor, it is a bit emotional as well. Spoiler... the Hero cries. There is some sexual content (hence the pregnancy,) but only a couple scenes, though, they are pretty hot. The timeline of the story moves pretty quickly, and the book itself is easy to read and flows nicely. It alternates POVs.

I found this book to be a little more angsty than the first two books in the series. There was a lot of mutual pining and some miscommunication. I loved the mix of the friends to lovers, single dad, surprise pregnancy tropes.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting Tristan and Abigail’s book since they met at the end of Made for Me. I loved the connection Penelope provided for them. And I loved that they both focused on themselves before finally jumping into a relationship. Abigail was just graduating high school when they met, and Tristan just found out he was going to be a single dad to a two year old. They both had some growing up to do before they were ready for a relationship. Six years later, they’re finally in a place to have that relationship, but it was not an easy path.

Both Abigail and Tristan harbored secret crushes on each other. For a lot of the book, they kept their feelings hidden, and there were definitely moments when I just wanted them to talk! After their one night at the end of family vacation I was really hoping they would start to explore their relationship, but it took months for Abigail to come clean to Tristan about her pregnancy and even longer for them to talk about their feelings.

As much as I hated that Abigail kept her pregnancy a secret, I did like the way she tried to make up for her lapse in judgment. She and Tristan were so cute together and his love for both his children and Abigail was perfect. I loved how vulnerable Tristan was when he explained his feelings to Abigail. I loved that he didn’t hide his tears.

This was a good addition to the series. There were a lot of hints about what’s to come with Gabrielle, Abigail’s twin, next and I can’t wait to see that play out on the page.
