If you like shadow monsters and hate-f*cking you are IN FOR A TREAT! 😍 This is the second book in a fabulous series that I’m definitely going to keep reading. I absolutely love the setup of this fantasy world and the moral and ethical quandaries Astrid is grappling with are so complex and real. I don’t think we get enough redemption arcs like this one, where someone realizes they’re on the wrong side and are willing to give up everything they’ve ever known and been taught to do what’s right.
Astrid and Soren are both so guarded but so helpless to resist each other — the angst was painful but the payoff was worth it 🔥💗

This book wasn't for me, but I think if you like the enemies-to-lovers trope, then you might like this one. I do think that aspect was reasonably well done, though I wasn't happy with the MMC overall. The FMC was the star of this book, and frankly I left it feeling she deserved a better apology and more love from everyone. Her struggles were very real and understandable, and the MMC's initial treatment was even somewhat understandable, but by the 50% mark I was pretty over it.

I was really disappointed with the MMC by the end of the book and didn't feel like he did enough to make up for his actions throughout the book. There were plenty of spicy scenes, but one in particular turned me off basically the rest of the book.
The FMC has sex with the MMC when she's clearly upset and doesn't actually want to (though it's technically consensual). The MMC recognizes something's wrong and even sort of mentions it but ultimately just keeps going, which left me feeling so dirty after reading that scene, and then this super problematic thing is never addressed again. I hated it and honestly couldn't respect him after that scene.
There was honestly basically no redeeming the book for me after that. I hate finished it just to be done, and I do plan to read the next one, which I hope will be more light-hearted and sweet. If not, I might not continue after the next book because I liked the idea of a somewhat cozy series to follow.

Loved it. Astrid is a great fmc - a strong woman who is now thrust into a new world after finding out she's been in the wrong and essentially the villain most of her life. Soren was a fun mmc, stoic and obsessed with Astrid. Because of everyone's safety, sure, buddy.

The enemies to lovers-trope was executed very well, and it was fun to read about the couple fighting their instincts and wants.

I didn't love this as much as the first book, probably because what made me love Luxuria was the humour and sass. Whilst the funny, sarcastic tone was still present in this book, it wasn't as pronounced. A great book, and I absolutely love this series.

Soren and Astrid had all the hate chemistry going on and I was kinda here for it. Soren was unyielding, loyal, and had a filthy mouth. Astrid was fierce, devoted to her sister, and wracked with guilt. I shed some tears for her struggles. She and Soren had every reason to despise the other and it was lovely to see them work through their issues.
