This is a painful and sad story, but I appreciated hearing it. Would be hard to take if you haven't experienced terrible addiction close to you and certainly not for curious Friends fans. A bit repetitive at times (I thought a whole section of chapter 10 was identical to the beginning) but then so is the disease. I've always liked Matthew Perry and will be wishing the best for him.
I completely respect Matthew Perry and his vulnerability and honesty in this book. I’m a big fan of friends and he was always my favorite actor. This book gave me a lot of insight into what it’s like battling with drugs and addictions, however it was hard to follow. I feel like he jumped around a lot and I could never fully understand the timeline. The whole time I was reading I also just felt like something was off? I don’t know what it was. I listened to the book on audible to listen to Matthew read it, and I feel like I was able to understand his jokes more when listening vs reading it.
welp, if it was ever a question of whether or not i’ll ever try drugs or alcohol, it certainly isn’t anymore. this was brutal

The writing was good, lots of sarcasm but also pure honesty and emotional depth. I can’t imagine what he went through and it’s sad that he died before having a family like he wanted.
Most times I was confused as to the actual timeline as he goes back and forth between the present and past but even the past is not chronological. Also, had no idea about most people he talked as I’m not really into gossip magazines and idolising famous people. Also, at some points it was so repetitive since he relapsed more than 60 times and it was always kind of the same. I mean it’s part of his life ofc so I understand.
Despite this, he was writing with a lot of clarity, acceptance, and sarcasm. I am glad I read it. Friends is one of my favourite series and would have never guessed this was how the real Chandler lived his life. I guess it was common during those times to abuse all the kids evil pleasures: drugs, alcohol, smoking (and they all complemented each other). Although I don’t think I will truly grasp what being an addict is like, I do sympathise.
