Interesting read but it was hard to follow the timeline since it jumped around so much

This book was both inspiring and heartbreaking. We love our actors and movie stars but never really understand what they are going through in their real lives.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more depressed and disheartened by a book in my life. Perry is insufferable, truly. Complete waste of time.

Heartbreaking to hear his story and learn about his lifelong struggles. A reminder that some of the “happiest” people we know may still be facing demons behind closed doors that we know nothing about. Addiction is such a terrible, terrible thing.

Matt never lets us forget that he is Batman—a survivor, a fighter, someone who has cheated death more times than most could imagine. He lived through what should have killed him, thanks to countless people in his life. Now, in this book, he’s searching for the reason why. Maybe this—telling his story—is his purpose.

He reminds us that addiction isn’t just about bad choices. It's in the wiring. It’s genetic. It’s a way of coping with loneliness, anxiety, and trauma. It’s about silencing the mental and emotional pain, even if just for a moment. Addiction allows someone to become a version of themselves that doesn't feel broken. This book is not just for addicts. It’s for anyone who has watched a loved one spiral and wondered, "Why can't you just stop?" But this story makes one thing painfully clear: it’s never that simple.

What’s most haunting is the final chapter titled "Batman." In it, Matt paints a vivid, almost cinematic image of his life and the people in it, as if he senses he’s slipping away for good. His final Instagram post shows him in his favorite place—his hot tub, overlooking Hollywood, where he had that exact vision of the amazing people in his life. Maybe he knew the end was near. Maybe he had fulfilled his purpose by telling a story most are too afraid or unable to share.

After 65 rounds of detox, maybe the battle was just too much. But in telling this story, he gave something lasting. Something necessary.

i adore matthew perry and this was a hardddd read for me. not because of anything wrong with his writing or the book, but just because it made me so sad, I didn’t want to read it.
then I found out that matthew perry himself narrates the book on audible. so I was like “omg I can hear this in his own voice?? perfect” so I started listening to it. tears. chapter ten, specifically. this poor man. addiction is such a horrible disease. rest in peace matty
