This Greek hero retelling story was amazing, Herakles and Megara story had me reading all night, I love Greek Mythology and I just started the series with this book which can be read as standalone, but I will read the others in the series as I enjoyed this one so much. The twist in the story made the already complicated story with tragedy, action and suspense way more appealing. The romance is beautifully written. A great series to read.

This was my least favorite book of the series so far. Chalk that up to a personal preference thing. I usually like books about Gods and Goddesses, but this one had a somewhat sci-fi(ish) feeling to it I didn't find appealing. I also didn't care for the heroine (Meg) very much. She spent the entire book too bitter and angry, and it made her a very unlikable heroine.
However, the book itself is fantastically well written. Great world building. A well-developed plot. A plethora of side characters that got a little confusing at times, but that were still enjoyable to read about. Surprisingly, this book wasn't very hot, considering Meg is a succubus nymphomaniac, but the three we do get late in the book were suitably spicey. Last, we are left with an open ending that leads into more books (I assume).
SIDE NOTE: Now, there is something I need to talk about. I am not sure if this author has BETA readers, and if she does how they let this get past them, but it is 2019 and using the word "retarded" as in "are you fucking retarded girl?" is derogatory and disgusting. I rarely pay much mind to non PC stuff in fictional books, but this literally stopped me in my tracks in shock. There are about 5000 other words that could have been used to express the same sentiments. I debated on whether I wanted to say anything, but ultimately, I felt that this needed to be addressed.

A step into the world of Greek mythology, this is an action packed story that you need to hold on tight throughout.
Ms Blanco has a real talent for creating atmosphere and new worlds. So vivid were the descriptions, I could see and smell everything that the characters were describing.
I must admit my knowledge of Greek mythology is a bit rusty and due to this, I found it did take me a while to get into the groove of the story and characters as there were so many elements to understand. However, once things clicked, this proved to be a fascinating read.

I am enjoying this series of standalone stories immensely! This is the third book of the sinister fairytales collection to be released and a new to me author. In this story, we receive a reimaging of the mythical relationship between Herakles/Hercules and Meg/Megara. Going in I knew the story that we received from the Disney animated movie and the vague retellings of Hercules from movies. I have never dug into the Greek mythology of the characters which could be why it took me a little bit of time to get into the story. I can say that once I got into the story I was completely drawn into the twisted, crazy, darkness that was a romance between Herakles and Megara.

Most of us know the story of Herakles (Hercules). The young demigod who goes on quests conquering monsters to become a god like his father Zeus. Sacrifice is a different type of retelling. Herakles has already done his initial tasks and become a god. However, he had to choose godhood over Megara. This retelling takes place in modern times, and Meg and Kles are forced to work together to re-defeat the monsters from before. This is a second chance, enemies-to-lovers, dark romance. With plenty of action, and smut to keep you fully entertained.
This series just keeps getting better and better and is aptly named Sinister Fairytales....
This book is no way a fairytale. It is dark, raw, vicious, bloodthirsty, ruthless, and well you get the picture. This twisted fairytale is about Herakles or Kles and Megara or Meg. Without giving too much away In this story Kles does the one thing he swore he would never do. Meg being the woman scorned has scoured the Earth for thousands of years in hopes of extracting her revenge. When she thinks she is going to get to do just that Hades decides to throw the proverbial wrench into her plans. As the two of them work together lines start to blur. The question is does Meg extract her revenge, OR does she give into the carnal need the two of these souls share??? This is no way full of hearts and flowers where these two are concerned. However if you enjoy a dark and twisted story just as much as I do then you will truly relish in this book.

I feel like I’m reading a sexy horror movie! This is sooooo far removed from the Disney Hercules or even the Kevin Sorbo TV Show of my childhood.
The epic worldbuilding, the plot, the deliciousness of the characters, the emotions, the subplots, the machinations at work that come from Blanco's beautifully twisted mind wove a story together that completely blew me away!! I've always loved Greek mythology and I'm very familiar with the story of Herakles and the contradicting factoids that have inspired so much of our literature and movies, so I was more than a little bit excited to see this author's take on such a legend. She not only brought him spectacularly to life, she depicted his every strength, triumph, weakness, flaw and imperfection with the right amount of humanity (although he's a god) and made him into a character I couldn't help but fall in love with. Herakles was fighting a battle on multiple fronts: he's got two gods fighting for dominance inside of him and he's got a shrew of a first love hating him with every breath he takes. Tasked with taking out the very beings he already sent to Hades, he's got his hands full trying to stay alive while his partner, his love, his everything, wants to kill him every step of the way.
Despite how much I utterly disliked Meg and her theatrics when it came to how she felt towards Kles, his character alone sold this story for me. He was the end all to be all and I was his willing slave! Where Kles was everything macho and masculine and methodical and mouthwathering, Meg came across as a shrew, a harridan, a harpy, and yet she was hot AF! She annoyed the heck out of me because her vitriol took up way too much of this story, but I found myself living for every moment of the interaction between these characters. I swear, Blanco knows just how to get me to sweat the small details and there was plenty to gobble up in this go-round. I didn't get why Kles was completely to blame for Meg's circumstances and I'm not down with people not owning up to their responsibilities or the part they play in their own destruction, but it made for some great entertainment.
Honestly, as a standalone and for those who haven't read any of these books before, this is a thrilling introduction to the Ryze series. However, I would still recommend reading the rest of the series to get a complete grasp of everything that was going on. That's just my opinion though. I'm absolutely in love with this world and its characters and I encourage everyone to learn more about them. Oh what a tangled web Blanco weaves!!

I’ll sacrifice every ounce of my sanity left to free her . . . right before I let her end me once and for all.

This was my first N. Isabelle Blanco book. I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t read the whole series but I didn’t love this book as much as I thought I would. Meg was a bit much and Herakles was not as great as I thought he would be. The sex scenes were so steamy and amazing. However, the plot fell a bit short for me. Some parts felt so rushed. I was confused for quite a bit of it. The ending left me scratching my head. This was definitely my least favorite of the Sinister Collection so far.
