A surprisingly good conclusion to a series I wasn't entirely enamoured with. The last section of the book was the best part for me, from the final battle to the end, a very well concluded novel!

I don't often write actual reviews for books, but I had to make an exception for this one and the series as a whole. It's been a while that I've been so easily gripped by a series where I could not put it down (or stop listening to it, when I happened to have Audible going) and had such a roller coaster of emotions. The story, the characters, and all of the magic and legend at the core of the series blend together to make something downright, well, magical. I definitely recommend it.

I have a weird relationship with this series overall. I did like the first book and did not really like the second one, so I was quite hesitant to read the last book of the series. I am happy to say that I really enjoyed it and found it a successful conclusion to the series. Overall I have to say that it is a really interesting world and I found the overall story arc very good. I longed for more scenes between Jin and Amani.

I don’t think I will ever get over how devastating this book is.
We’ve all read fantasy books with wars, rebellions, and battles.
But this is one of the few the come to mind when I think of real sacrifice.
Alwyn Hamilton has never been afraid to kill off characters, and it truly shows here...and I think it’s one of the reasons I love these books so much.
Because the characters we’ve loved and grown attached to in the last two books?
We are truly afraid for them now.
We’ve seen their friends and family alike die.
And we know that they will not all make it out alive.
Every single chapter in this series has been leading up to this book.
And it doesn’t disappoint in any way.
I know I’ve said this before, but Alwyn Hamilton’s writing is stunning.
Not only in the descriptions and atmosphere (which is beautiful) but in the fairytale-like stories she tells.
Every character has a legend.
Every character will leave a story behind.
But Amani is not just the Blue Bandit.
Jin is not just the Foreign Prince.
And every single character has their own tale to tell.
Of the rebellion, of their lives, and of their loves.
So I think that’s why I come back to this series again and again.
Because the characters, the storytelling, and the world all have a firm grip on my heart and refuse to ever let me go.

Thanks for reading! ❤️

This series was so good. Strong female characters. Profluent plotline. Great cathartic resolution. I’ll miss Amani’s stories.

3.5 stars. I'm pleased with the ending. For me, this was a trilogy where book one was okay, book two was fantastic, and then book 3 was good, but not as great as book two.

Mostly, I'm just like,
Spoiler"Sam... ;_;"

But even if the desert forgot a thousand and one of our stories, it was enough that they would tell of us at all.

I feel like this book, while still enjoyable, didn’t quite hold to the same editorial standard as the first two. No spoilers here, but there were some consistency- and detail-issues that were super annoying. The ending was handled very well, I appreciated tying up loose ends though I don’t think it would’ve been terrible to leave them to the imagination :) overall, I recommend the series!

This book is the conclusion of the Rebel of the Sands trilogy. The beginning of the book was very slow to me. I also was annoyed with the main character. I did enjoy how the author wove in the stories of legends within the book. It was a very satisfying conclusion.
