“I intend to worship this body of yours for hours, Little Goddess.”

Alright y’all I’m in ✨Romantasy Era ✨ and Jaclyn did not disappoint with this one! Between life and death had all the things from easy to follow world building to an interesting magic system! Sage was a head strong and determined FMC which I enjoyed and Von…. Von was just everything I look for in a Romantasy MMC

Gosh, so many complaints on how Von is like “A, B, and C MMC combined…” isn’t that why we read these? Because they share similar qualities? I fail to see how this is a bad thing. Romance side was a bit faster-paced, and while I’m a fan of a good slow burn, this was juuuust fine for me.

Set in a world where having power is considered a curse and a one-way ticket to execution. Our girl bands with some rebels to find her brother who was conscripted for war.

Hidden (to themselves) identity, betrayal, death, reincarnation, ate this shit up.

Cliffhanger ending (rude 😜).

🎧 listened to audio, great narrators, I love duet narration!

This book is a ride. I loved the characters that Jaclyn created. She does a wonderful job of giving readers exactly what we are looking for a badass FMC, a sexy morally grey MMC, and a cast of fantastic side characters.

The journey that Sage went on -- she had wonderful character growth as she met challenges and battled against strong foes. The spice was *chef's kiss* and the plot for a dark, ride that left me craving more.

I read this book in 24 hours. I completely devoured it and it was amazing! Let me just say that there is a certain someone in this book that has some SWAGGER (who am I, even using that term?!) but he also has a strong love for bourbon which reminds me of my husband so of course I was going to love him. The relationship building and coming into power journey that is beginning to unfold is what bumped this book to 5 stars for me. I could not stop reading and trying to decipher what was going to come next!
This book laid a solid foundation of information as well that I believe is going to turn into a fantastic series full of complexities that I am excited to read more about!

This was okay. There was a lot of repetitive language and contemporary language that took me out. I found a lot of the story line to be predictable.

I felt like there was a lot of telling and not enough showing. A prime example of this below:

"She told me everything—everything the Cursed rebels had done over the years. The good times—the victories, the friendships. And the bad—the blood, the tears, and the goodbyes that never got to be said. During those stories, my heart ached."

There were some pretty relatable sibling scenes but overall the characters really needed to be fleshed out more. I felt that their motivations were lacking and the rebel thing was more of a side quest than a main one. I found it hard to really stay focused on the book and kept going back to others I was in the middle of.

I mean some of the conversations were just ridiculous:

“Are you telling us you are a bottom?”
Soren stuttered. “I am not! I like girls—women!”

I got what the author was going for. It could have been funny but there was so little depth to the characters I just didn't care, not when it was light-hearted and definitely not when it became serious.

The MMC was boring and uninteresting with cheesy, corny lines and insta-loved our MC. There was no tension between the two of them making their entire relationship boring. Our MC was just a mess that acted more like a lamb following the herd to slaughter then a goddess and I just found her really unintelligent.

The book overall felt like an amalgamation of the top ten most popular books right now with no real originality

And for those of you that just want to know what the ending was without finishing this book (I wanted to DNF at 50% but the completionist in me requires me to know how the book at least ends) here's the jist

Von sacrificed himself
"The irony was not lost on me that I was the Goddess of Life and it was my kiss that stole the last and final breath from the God of Death"

She was taken prisoner
" The movement reminded me of the unyielding iron collar wrapped around my neck, reminding me that I was a prisoner."

Her real name is Aurelia,
She has hundreds of years of memories locked away in her head and  Arkyn betrayed her. Kaleb comes back from the dead and becomes a reaper
"Even in death, his love remained intact—that bond stuck.
“One day, a man strode into my room, a bottle of something he called bourbon in his hand.” His eyes flashed to mine. “He poured me a glass . . . said I was going to need it. And that’s when he told me everything. That he was the God of Death, my new employer. And that you were the Goddess of Life."

The feathers are connected to the reapers since they turn into birds and the marbles are departed souls.

Oh and von isn't dead
"Kaleb moved, kneeling in front of me. He took my hands in his, gently cradling them as he spoke the very words I had never expected to hear. “Von is alive.”
 . . . That sneaky bastard."
Dun dun dun!

Stupid ending really. Like what a jerk of a MMC. Anyway I'm glad I'm done with this.
