SFF180's review https://youtu.be/gI_kpXOpue0?si=q78FT_8Hb_Nf_OWZ pretty much perfectly captures my opinion of this book too. It has a lot going on and it happens so FAST.
Ava and Jules are employees at this IKEA-like store that apparently experiences wormholes where people ocassionally go missing into them so they have a device, a FINNA, that locates the missing person. Jules is Ava's ex (Jules is non-binary and think Ava is female identifying?) so when Jules volunteers to go, Ava does too, to track down a missing grandma, Ursula.
Hilariously they discover mutant human-eating furniture within the wormhole and it appears that Ursula was the victim of a chair. However, the FINNA is also programmed to find the nearest replacement. Because its a multiverse so they can find a replacement Ursula to bring back.
Following the directions, it takes them to this like... vampire type world? There's definitely an IKEA food court scene involving blood. They escape into a water world where they nearly die but in the nick of time Captain Ursula on a submarine(??) saves them. Right as she learns the hive vampire universe has seen them, they're attacked. There's an escape scene and they nearly get away unscathed but Ursula is hurt saving them.
Jules bars a door and tells Ava to use the FINNA and leave with an unconscious Ursula. Jules was always planning to stay. So Ava leaves and brings Ursula back.

What if IKEA had wormholes to other dimensions? What if, due to budget cuts, the two least senior employees need to go hunting for a lost customer through said wormhole? And also they had just broken up with one another- like three days ago.

This is the premise of Cipri's Finna! Retail depression humor and alternate dimensions in a bite-sized novella; what else could you need.

The concept is simple: what if IKEA had wormholes? It certainly feels like it exists outside time and space, and in Finna, the fictional LitenVärld does just that. The design of the store makes it prone to these rips in the universe, and normally it’s fine. No big deal. But when a customer goes missing, recently broken-up partners Jules and Ava are tasked with bringing this lost customer back to the right world. Sounds about right that a mega corporation would send hourly employees searching through space with unknown dangers and not even pay overtime. Aside from exploring universes and seeing how these stores exist in them, the story also explores grief and relationships and how much capitalism sucks.

I really enjoyed this novella, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, fun read that has a lot of depth. Nino Cipri created several incredible worlds in so few pages, and I can’t wait to explore more of their work.

What a weird yet enjoyable novella!

The mix of surrealism, fantasy, horror and LGBT+, all weaved around an IKEA-like shop, should never have worked, but it does. It’s ‘crazy' but I actually enjoyed it :O) Don’t try to find out more - just jump into it, and enjoy the hour of escapism :O)

I enjoyed this book. For all the things it did well (inclusivity and parallels to our own society where there is unnecessary pushback on this exact thing), I was kind of shocked for how little empathy there was regarding certain developments (
like Ursula Nouri - they just, accept that this person was eaten by a plant, shrug, and move on??
) I also question why there wasn’t more dialog about the
wormholes.
Regardless, I definitely want to read the second one.

It was cute. The whole time I was wishing it was more serious and long and fleshed out. But it was still a fun little read. The premise of the book is awesome!
