This book was mostly very enjoyable. The setting/scenes very much felt like summer. We were rooting for the main characters most of the time & overall it was just an enjoyable read, with a few exceptions.
1) The "mine, Felix" line was *exhausting.* It literally had me cringing by the end of the book. Idk who told the author to go in on that line as if it wasn't going to get old, but it was so extremely over done.
And
2) The last 40ish pages of this book felt like pulling my eyelashes out one by one. I would have been done with this book 2 weeks ago had it just ended where it naturally wanted to. It drug on so unnecessarily, I didn't even want to read the epilogue. I'm glad I read it all, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was skimming through the last 5-10 pages. Like we get it, let it end already. Just felt exhausting after the climax came & went. I enjoyed the setting & characters personality a ton, it just unfortunately had some agitating intricacies that could have been avoided in editing. Due to this I will probably be putting off reading some of her other works until another summer/year.

3.5… I think. I loved this story (cliches and cringe and all) but the writing really wasn’t for me, which is such a bummer because I loved these characters.

Carley Fortune is the queen of slow burn romance. This book had the best tension and longing, and I love a good best friend’s brother trope. It was perfect!

4.5 stars!
Reading a Carley Fortune book is akin to soaking in the warm summer sun and relishing it (iykyk). I love everything about her summer reads and am so glad I discovered her writing this year.
I really, really loved this book. It was so subtle and sweet and sexy all at once. She has this way of writing that is so gentle but meaningful. I was a little nervous after reading the premise but it turned out great. Felix was a dream and Lucy was so sweet.
There were some things that bothered me: For example, Bridget's big reveal was a bit... underwhelming for me. I honestly thought she was going to say something wild like Lucy's aunt was actually her mom or something. I also wanted a bit more explanation on why Lucy didn't get along with her family super well. I think it was there in a few instances, but not enough for me personally. I also felt like the third act conflict was kind of lackluster and not needed, but I understand why Carley Fortune set up the end of the book that way.
Anyway I enjoyed it and I am officially a Carley Fortune stan!
