This book captured my, just like Wolfsong did.  Every spare moment I had was picking it up and not wanting to put it down.

Reading from Gordo’s point of view was just so raw and real - I came love his character all the more, despite the hilarious curmudgeon front he puts up.
It was emotional watching him go from protecting himself from everything…having lost it all before, and being so afraid to lose it again…so angry he ever lost it in the first place…that he couldn’t allow himself to be happy.
To finally letting the joy in…holding the sadness, the relief, the joy.
The blue and the green.

I love the way TJ Klune uses colors to describe emotional states.  It’s so vivid.
I am diving right into Heartsong, and then will be impatiently waiting for the re-release of Brothersong in July.

The world is a hard place right now - it always has been, but I think maybe those of us paying attention feel that now more than ever.
Reading a book with characters who have experienced so much darkness, loss, trauma, and violence that overcome by the bonds of love, friendship, and family is exactly the kind of story I need right now.
To remember that we are strong together, and that love is always stronger than hate.

This series is a gift - I have a feeling I will return many a time to Green Creek.  Thank you for the family I’ve found within these pages, TJ Klune.

I didn't like it as much as the first book. The first book had moments that made me feel so relaxed, so warm and giggly. This book didn't really have those moments. It was more tense, more sad. It was good. The plot was welthought out. But I just didn't feel the same bond with the characters. To much war. Gordo and Mark are fine. I was curiuous about their past. Now I know. A bit stupid. Heartbreaking. The big villain of this book was... boring? I snoozed at her speeches. Real trouble getting through it. Didn't see the contribution to the plot. I am going to read the third book. Hoping this one will be more lighthearted. I want to feel fuzzy again.

This was good, but no where near as good as Wolfsong. I struggled with the plot of this one. It read very Twilight supervillians to me, which while fun, didn't really engage me like I had hoped. There was perhaps too much going on and I cared much more about the romance, which took a side show to the plot unlike in the first book.

I found the recap at the beginning a bit too long-winded. While I enjoyed seeing Gordo grow up, I had a hard time telling what was in the very-past or the timeline of Wolfsong and what was in the present day. I also found Gordo's narration a bit juvenile for someone who was supposed to be older than the rest of the characters (aside from Mark). Since Klune has a very specific authorial voice (which I usually adore!), Gordo's voice read a lot like Ox's in Wolfsong which made this a little harder to believe being told by an older adult.

I still enjoyed this one but I did find the miscommunication tiring and Gordo's constant anger at Mark irritating. I felt like I better understood Mark's motivations than his actual mate which was frustrating at times.

So, while I'll continue this series for sure, I found this one a bit disappointing, certainly did not live up to Wolfsong's hype for me.

This was better developed and more beautiful than the first book, Wolfsong.
