This is one of the first books I’ve read that had no plot but kept my interest. The story telling was interesting. I think it’s written in 3rd person but we were able to get 4 different perspectives. I really enjoyed all the women centered in this story. The mom was gripped by the patriarchy but her love for her daughters felt familiar. It was odd to me that the author made normally hard topics so casual but it made the story seem light/easy. Still, I really enjoyed the writing and loved how each of their personalities were able to shine on and off page. Again, there’s no real plot and the timeline is hard to keep up with but I loved the chaos.

I wanted to read more about indigo, but was found very disappointed. I thought this is so disjointed and rushed towards the last few chapters. Very interesting read about folklore though.

such a beautiful read; love the characters and their relationships to each other so much, as well as the complicated and multifaceted discussion of Black womanhood

This book is complicated because there's so much going on, and you're just getting snippets of things and it's all very poetic, and I think I wasn't quite in the right vibe for it. I want to try it again one day. It's funny because the audiobook gives the chance to hear the singing portions and all of the different accents, but then the physical book would make the recipes and letter portions more natural. Overall, this book is really cool, and I think it's a really creative project.
