Gruesome, deranged, brutal and horrific, but I was so impressed by it!
The deep explorations of motherhood, disability, social perception and the fine lines between sensitive topics were continuously present throughout the book.

Loved that the book is filled with magical realism and flowing prose. I interpreted the book to be about motherhood, nature/nurture argument, mental disorder that may be potentially inherited and raising a child with a disability . The end of chapter six and all of chapter seven just hit me personally in a way that had me crying. I found myself rooting for you too, Chouette.
love the writing style but the plot fell a little short for me. i really enjoyed the way in which the narrator was gay

I think this is the strangest book I have ever read. The prose is absolutely enthralling and fluctuates between extended metaphors, magical realism, and some semblance of reality. The story seems very open to interpretation - do you believe the owl-baby is a metaphor? Is it literal? Is it a figment of her imagination? Themes could range from disability and ableism, the all-consuming nature of motherhood, mental illness, marriage and relationships...and many more. I finished this in one sitting, and it was fantastically disorienting. This is a book I will want to reread at some point and will be on my mind for months to come.
