Ava Reid really has a mastery of language. She creates gorgeous pictures for her characters to navigate. It is also a beautiful look into trauma and it’s complex, and yes, sometimes counterintuitive effects on a person’s mind

wow?? omg?? wow??? this is my first “gothic horror” type book and from start of the book, the way the author writes evokes this dark, suffocating feeling both atmospherically and within character interaction. i think the horror aspect of it is wonderfully done and i might be stupid but i truly didnt see the plot twist which made it more enjoyable to me. also the romance, while not the main focus, imo, is wonderfully done
