Love, Theoretically

This was the last AH novel I wanted to read and dammit if it wasn't the best one.  Jack Smith Turner forever. Elsie, our FMC, is cut from the exact same cloth as Olive from Love Hypothesis, so if you hate a quirky STEM girlie lacking confidence, you won't find anything different here. There's no icky power dynamic like in LH, and AH restrains herself no to mention the size of her MMC every other page (here it's more like every 8 pages). i absolutely adore it. Will be buying a physical copy. Can't wait to check it out on audiobook.

This made my chronically ill heart swoon!

Love, Theoretically is a rivals to lovers romance between two physicists, Elsie and Jack.

Elsie has Type I Diabetes, and her chronic illness is a big part of her character development. I really related to the guilt and desire to please when you grow up sick and that sickness affects others.

I think a lot of women will see themselves in Elsie, who in the words of Taylor Swift is a pathological people pleaser. And Jack, unlike Joe Alwyn, sees her. I loved their chemistry, but I loved even more how they helped each other grow.

I also always love the settings that Ali Hazelwood puts her books in, and this one really delves into the politics of academia. I found that truly fascinating, though the villain felt a tiny bit cartoonish at times.

This one was great though! I’ll read anything and everything Ali Hazelwood writes!

I don't like instalove. He falls for her when he thinks that she's his brother girlfriend... and then continues to be obsessed with her for six months.... like you're kinda weird for that but he's the best part of this books so I'll attempt ( and fail ) to over look it.

Elsie was kinda dumb? There were many times where I was baffled by her thoughts and actions. For someone who is a genius she's a little stupid. Jack spends the entire book praising her and telling her that he likes her but she just doesn't get it. Peerection? Girl! Are you okay in the brain?

It was weird that halfway through the book we find out that Elsie didn't get the job, something that was in the description. After that the book felt kinda... like it was dragging on? The plot was thrown out the building.

That twist at the end... I was not shocked, but I was annoyed that Elsie got upset. It was evident to me very quickly that he was sabotaging her, and that he was withholding jobs from her. But I guess she didn't notice because he got her into grad school.

I can't say I'd ever recommend this book to anyone to be honest.

3.5⭐️ I really liked this book but I didn’t LOVE it but it was pretty good I love ali hazel wood and I would prob read anything she put puts out

I wish this was like the Love Hypothesis… but maybe not? I liked how Jack was very honest and direct about his feelings for Elsie from the very beginning. Everything else? Not so much. This was just not it, but honestly I don’t anything would ever compare with how much I loved the Love Hypothesis.
