Jack is made for the eldest daughter. Also not me being annoyed with the FMC, when I’m literally her 🥲
I would probably give this 3.75 ⭐️Jack is my new fav book boyfriend, he is the sweetest and most thoughtful book boyfriend ever. I really enjoyed the banter in this book and wanted to give it 5 stars, but the last 100 pages lost me a little. It felt like once there was a bit of spice, that was the whole focus of the book. Additionally, I thought the main conflict was petty and annoying in the last 100 pages.
Overall, I enjoyed it and I would recommend it! I might have to enjoyed it more if I wasn’t in a slump.

Spice: 🌶🌶
There's no theorizing my love for Elsie and Jack. They were perfectly imperfect. Elsie hit close to heart with her need for perfection and people pleasing. Tweaking her personality to become the "Elsie" that others wanted her to be.
Jack helped her be honest with herself and figure out who she truly is. I feel like we've all lost ourselves at some point... Im grateful to the Jack's who help pull us back to our center.
Jack was a classic Ali MMC. Tall, broody, mysterious, and all the yummy "Touch her and ☠️" vibes. I find theres a comfort in the familiar. Even though there is probably going to be a formulaic mess up, I know in the end he'll be a total simp and there's heart eyes all the way.

This took me a bit longer to get into, as per my initial reading notes:
So far this is a bit choppy in the writing style (and thus confusing) and hard to get into. I keep rereading sentences until I figure out the proper cadence/slang of what its supposed to be
Also I'm baffled by this maybe? badly edited paragraph: Pg 16
"He's over there, with your cousin," I say absentmindedly, watching him place more stones. His hands are stupidly large. But also graceful, and it makes no sense. Also makes no sense? There are two chairs, but we're not sitting.
Huh? I think it's just overly casual stream of consciousness, but it keeps tripping me up

towering over me like a towering tower 🙄
But overall I still enjoyed it, and binged it over two days. I related a lot to Elsie's people pleasing and insecurities, and enjoyed her character's development ("this is not your character arc, just a bump" - very reassuring idea to me)
"When's the last time you had someone in your life you could be completely honest with?
...
Maybe my parents, when I was very young. But I can't remember single moment in the past two decades in which I wasn't context dependent.
"That I don't tell my family about my job because I'm unable to let people know that I'm not more than the sum of the ways I can be useful to them. That if I show my true self, with my needs and my wants, I risk being rejected. That I've wielded my ability to hide who I am like an emotional antiseptic
Desirable Elsies were never allowed to acknowledge negative feelings. But the Elsie I'm discovering I am is in the eye of several, and instead of trying to channel, disassemble, toss, forget, bury, transform, choke, erase, disappear those feelings—instead of doing any of that, she just lets them be.

This book is almost a 5 star read for me.
I relate a lot with Elsie and I loved how much she has progressed over the course of the book.
Jack is the definition of what I want in a partner, I've fallen irrevocably in love with him and I hope to find, someday, someone who takes care of me half as much as Jack does of Elsie.
Even though TLH and LoTB are absolute bangers that I truly enjoyed, this one hits the spot for me.
I love how STEM related and technical it was and I ENJOYED THE CORNY ROM-COM CONFESSIONS AND QUOTES, SO WHAT?
Thx Ali!
