I do love a magia bad boy. Throw in a forced marriage questionable morals and a history...

Let's just say I'm raring to go!

Celia Aaron gives us this quick delight with just enough naughty to keep us in line, on our toes, and begging for more.

This is a very generic mafia book.
It was entertaining enough that I finished it but I struggled with the characters a lot.
The MMC was an ass for a really dumb reason. If I’m going to read a story about a character hell-bent on revenge, it needs to be for a good reason. And taking your frustrations out on someone because you’re mad at their parents, in my opinion, is just ridiculous. Especially when you know those parents have abused the victim you are now abusing.

The other problem I had with this book is for the main male character, his character did a complete 180 out of nowhere. It felt like I was reading a completely different character about halfway through the book when he decided to love and cherish the main female character. It was absolutely bizarre. It wasn’t a Slow progression into loving his new wife at all.

No cheating.

Good mafia read

From the get-go, Devil's Captive was filled with action, blöödshed, and other content that may be sensitive to other readers. Every character was unique in their own way, but Lito was my all-time favorite. I feel like there could've been more to Lucretia's and Mateo's relationship as they grew to care for each other (especially on Lucretia's end). Overall I did enjoy reading the story as I finished it in about 2 1/2 hours.

Hero calls the heroine “Princess” every other paragraph. I hate pet names.

Mateo & Lucretia: Too Rocky Start… Too Easy Finish

Mateo stormed into Lucretia’s life like a whirlwind! I mean, the dude came into the chapel in her wedding day, murdered her intended and married her with the deceased groom’s wedding rings!

Can’t get more ballsy than that!

This was all as an act of revenge to Lucretia’s family for the murder of his parents. Mateo comes off as beyond cruel to the innocent Lucretia who had no idea why Mateo hates her so much and wants to make her life with him hell.

I’ll admit, I struggled with Mateo. He was cruel in a very demeaning way to Lucretia throughout the first half of the novel without telling her why. This made it very hard to feel for him. In one scene he dresses her like a whore and makes her parade around his men half naked and then flips out when one of his men chooses to “help himself” to Lucretia and almost assaults her. What does he do when he finds out? He has the man killed in such a brutal way, I couldn’t help but gasp while I read it. So, miraculously this cruel human decides that he cares for her and will kill anyone who touches her. Huh???

I usually love Celia Aaron’s books. I LOVED her book, THE BAD GUY. So I was really excited to read about Mateo expecting more of the same. The only similarity is the psycho-factor of the hero, which I sort of enjoyed. However, Mateo didn’t realized he had feeling for Lucretia until about 65% of the book. Too long to establish this “I love her and will do anything for her” mentality after enduring and witnessing so much of his brutality. Therefore, I can only award it three stars.

This story should have either been a bit longer or made into two parts. The ending seemed rushed and contrived. However, it was entertaining nonetheless and a smooth read I was able to start and finish in a day.

Happy reading!

looooved it❤️

Well, I loved Devil’s Captive as I am always a big fan for mafia romance with enemies to lovers trope and this book has nailed it. The back and forth, the undeniable smexual chemistry, the devotion… They all come twisted in a package of betrayal, suspense and backstabbing which made Devil’s Captive a truly intriguing story!
