kind of fell off towards the end for me a bit plot wise but still an enjoyable thriller.

What I liked:
- very interesting premise. I love the atmospheric setting and the languages
-engaging narrator
- her relationship with the girl
- the side characters all felt like complex people
-it was tense and I couldn’t put it down
-a few scenes toward the end are so eery and vivid. Really well done
- the scenes with the brother keep me reading.
- the Inuit culture and atmosphere are just great to read about

What I didn’t like:
-the ending twist is fairly predictable and the final scene is too crazy and violent. Maybe it will work well in a movie, though or is typical in this genre
-I thought everyone was actually too hard on Wyatt throughout the book. Obviously my opinion changed, but it annoyed me while reading. He didn’t read as deserving their behavior
-the child abuse was hard to take.
- the epilogue is implausible as well. It was fine and I’m glad to know what eventually happened but it really requires extension of disbelief
- the mental health part is a bit odd. As someone who has mental health issues, I don’t like the implications that she can overcome them if she just tries hard enough. That’s not always true since your brain has a disorder. I did appreciate that mental health was depicted at all, however

I have mixed feelings. I really enjoyed the ride but when I stepped back from this book the picky part of my brain got annoyed with some flaws

This isn't the type of book I normally read and I loved it. This is also the first time I annotated an ARC copy of a book. I liked all the characters to a point and what they brought to the story. I loved that this book a me guessing from the start. There some I trusted right away any others I knew I shouldn't trust. It was a good pace of reading and it was very easy to read, even with all the science talk. I will be reading more from Erica Ferencik ever soon.
