I liked the story, but I’m not sure that I liked the ending.
Loved the idea of this. Although I did feel like the ending was definitely rushed and it brought my enjoyment down a star.
I am volunteering to leave a review of this ARC book. "A grumpy grizzly shifter, a beautiful fox and a whole lot of paranormal intrigue. No cheating, happily ever after guaranteed." Per the blurb, this was so true, along with a couple of hours of exciting entertainment that is no surprise from this dynamic duo! This book offers true "escapism!" I have never met a shape shifter or a vampire, but I certain do love reading about, and spending time with them. This is especially true with exceptional story-tellers. There has not been a book a did not enjoy by this pair! I just love those protective alpha males Renee and Lee introduce us to in their books! This was one of my favorite sentences: “The ink on my skin is nothing compared to the marks she left on my heart.” OMG!!!
it had a lot of potential with a grumpy bear shifter hero and a submissive fox shifter heroine. however, i didn't like all the pushing away the hero did. and the heroine wasn't to my liking, a bit too timid and docile. she also forgave him too quickly after he screwed up. considering her past, she should've been reluctant to give him her trust again.
another thing: this kind of fantasy/paranormal worldbuilding, where the strong don't protect the weak but victimize them instead, is also something i despise. it almost made me stop reading halfway through. some authors write shifter and/or vampire fiction like that; the strong shifters/vampires abusing the weak. it's a bit too heartless and cruel for me to enjoy.
