Spoilers ! you have been warned
I usually love this author's stories but this one was rounded off to meh. One, the heroine character felt forced to me. She, had a past love, her first love who she rattles on about ad nauseam through the story. Two, She was this trained for her whole life woman warrior on patrol for these dangerous Fae and yet she acted without thought many times. Three, Tink ? Really she is a super badass with a little horny sidekick named Tink ? I've read that before. Four, the super devotion of Ren after just a few feels and O's ? it's didn't make sense with all her past love mental rehashing his more experienced life and their lack of time together. Why did this gorgeous guy fall insta love for this prickly chick ? I never got that. Five, all the members of this protection group were so distant, there was no feeling of connection between them, the author wrote about them meeting and knowing each other but telling it didn't work for me, I never believed it. Six, Her BFF Val. She was there she did stuff, shocking stuff but I didn't care because I never got to know her. I wasn't surprised, don't know why they were so close, and never really saw it. Seven, Our MC, the big badass fae killer never asked Tink any questions about information that could be a life or death deal ? I feel like such a whiny complainer. The story didn't click together like I'd expected from JLA.
I'll read the next one, the world and story held my interest and I have hope that the characters will develop more in the next books.

Wicked
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trigger warnings:
Mention of rape
Mention of abuse
Violence

This was so fun to read!! Interesting world-building, I kind of want my own brownie now... The end was very predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Although I love reading JLA's books, I've realized over time that some of her writing makes me cringe. But, I'm overlooking it because she writes amazing stories, and her books are some of the most addicting!

My Review

Wow. Oh man. Another series for me to be addicted to. Armentrout is by far one of my favorite authors and this book proves she can tell a kick ass story! Wicked was way more than I expected and completely mind-blowing. There was a lot of awesome in this book.

First things first, I must talk about the setting. Being a native to New Orleans, I loved that she mentioned some of my favorite places! Jackson Squire, Café De Monde (they really do have some amazing beignets), and a few other places. What I loved about that was I could actually imagine where the characters where. So I was able to get fully absorbed into the setting of the book. New Orleans really does have a paranormal feel as well, so the paranormal aspect of the book went well with the setting.

Like nearly all of Armentrout’s female characters, Ivy was a tough character. Her world is one that demands instincts to survive, a dangerous world filled with some very dangerous creatures. But Ivy also felt real, in her emotions and thoughts. I loved that she is tough, ready to fight, but also that she uses her head – though she does have a tendency to just start kicking butt.

Then there is Ren. Lordy Almighty! Armentrout creates some swoon worthy guys and Ren is no exception. He’s like a mix of Daemon and Roth combined, swoony and so delectable. But he is also a very kind and sweet guy. But he is more than he appears. He shows up in Ivy’s world with secrets that turn Ivy’s world upside-down. All in all, I just couldn’t get enough of Ren.

I must also talk about Tink. Yes, a little creature that makes quite a few appearances in the book. I ADORED this little creature! I couldn’t get enough of his cocky attitude and every time he appeared I wanted more of him. He was probably my favorite character other than Ren. But the book is also filled with some very interesting characters. Some that end up surprising me.

The paranormal aspect of the book was also something I’m not used to. I have, in fact, never read a book based on fae before. So going into that type of world was quite different. But in true Armentrout style, she blew me away and made me very interested in her world. She made it scary, dark, and very frightening, but also interesting, believable, and quite amazing. She blended the paranormal and normal world quite well. The writing style is something I have always enjoyed about Armentrout’s work, and she doesn’t disappoint in Wicked. The chemistry was intense between Ren and Ivy, I ate it up! Though I was able to figure one major plot twist out another one left my mouth on the floor. And then we have that ending! What a cliffhanger!

But all in all, Armentrout has created another phenomenal world filled with wicked creatures and characters I just can’t help but love.

Not bad. I liked the plot, but the pace was very slow. Also I don’t like 🌶️ so i skimmed through those scenes. I do wanna read the second book however, I’m curious how the story continues

I usually love armentrout’s books but this one was cliche after cliche. An unlikeable male lead + an ill plotted story led to a lot of disappointment.

Not JLA’s best work - but full of all your favourite tropes!
