Carly Phillips does it again. Another fabulous read that is filled with beautifully written characters, a storyline filled with fake deaths, deception, intrigue, and love that survives space and time. Ty, Hunter and Lily(Lacey) were the three musketeers and when everything comes to a head, that friendship and love is what gets them through it all. I cannot wait for Hunter's story!!

"Lacey Kincaid is a classic New York success story. As the owner of Odd Jobs, she's gone from rags to riches . . . sort of. Because Lacey's harboring a secret -- she was born Lillian Dumont, and spent her childhood with a silver spoon in her mouth, until the deaths of her wealthy parents and the evil schemes of an abusive uncle forced her to take drastic measures. She'd never planned to return to her former life or her abandoned identity -- but when her childhood sweetheart, Ty, resurfaces and urges her to claim her rightful inheritance, she decides that maybe being the Dumont heiress wouldn't be so bad. Lacey's uncle doesn't see it that way, though -- and he's willing to do anything to stop her.

Now, it's up to Ty to protect Lacey before that silver spoon becomes a silver bullet. But if they live through this, the future's looking bright for this downtown guy and his brand-new uptown girl!" (From Amazon)

A cute and steamy romantic contemporary!

I haven't read a Carly Phillips in awhile and I still like her short, sweet romances but I wasn't as head-over-heels for her characters in this story as I know I could be. Something was lacking in it for me. A solid 3.5 stars. Excited to continue with the duology though because I enjoy Hunter and Molly's characters more.

I remember reading this one when it was published the first time, and I loved it just as much this time around! Carly never disappoints me, and this one is no exception. Quick, light read with relatable characters and reasonable story arc. Enjoy!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is not typical for me. I picked it up at the general store in our cottage town (population 500) because I absolutely needed a book. I didn't look at the publisher (Harlequin) until after I was back at the cottage. The story itself was intriguing, but the 8-paged sex scene was a bit much. Not that I don't enjoy a little steamy detail every here and there, but 8 pages just isn't for me.

Too predictable, too much nitpicking on emotions, and characters over analyze every thing a lot. Too much trying for a simple plot to become big.

This particular book relied too much on tell me, rather than show me. That, combined with the fact that it hinted that it was romantic suspense but didn't deliver, made it impossible to keep reading. Even more annoying, the PDF that I got had layout issues and I had to try 3 different apps to read it on my iPad.

*I received an ARC for an honest review*

Ty & Lacey’s story was every bit as exciting as I was expecting it to be and more.

Lacey’s parents unexpectedly die when she is 17, leaving her in the care of her Uncle Marc. In the months that follow, Marc becomes abusive and tries to manipulate Lacey to sign over the money/house that her parents left her. To escape her abusive, money hungry uncle, Lacey does the most unthinkable thing a 17 year old girl can do...she fakes her own death! Her best friends Ty and Hunter help her pull this off. Ty and Lacey hadn’t known each other long before this happens but he knows he has to help her.

10 years later....Lacey’s uncle plans to officially declare her as dead (no body was ever found) and this brings Ty to Lacey’s doorstep so he can bring her back home to claim what’s rightfully hers.

You don’t think it’s gonna be that easy do you? Of course not, drama on top of drama unfolds! Read more to see how the story ends!

I really enjoyed this book. Some of it was a bit hard to believe - for example when Lilly/Lacey first went missing etc wasn't really dealt with. However, generally, this was a good holiday book to read. I enjoyed the storyline and it wasn't too obvious with the outcome regarding her Uncle and the executor. I look forward to reading more of her books.
