Lolita just wasn't for me. Like many readers, I picked this up to see which point was true - Is this a deplorable stain on Literary history by romanticizing a sexual predator? Or a creative stroke of brilliance, where art simply imitates the dark side of life?

The answer is more the latter, but that doesn't translate into personal enjoyment.

It felt like I was reading the diary of Count Rostov from A Gentleman in Moscow, only he's been born a pedophile instead of a royal scholar.

No thanks.

Quite a sickening book. I'm astounded anyone can read it and see a romance. It's really well written and demonstrates why it has become such a fundamental feature of the literary canon.

A fascinating book with excellent wordplay - truly a masterpiece of prose. The pace can be slow, but I was pulled back into the book all the way through the end. Somewhat unlike any other book I've read, and I doubt I'll read another like it. I believe this would be interesting to read and discuss in a high school or college literature course because it is challenging to discuss the story and the questions that arise from reading it with others who shy away from the perverted storyline.

It's well written, but just makes me too uncomfortable to finish. Sorry, Nabakov.
