The final volume in the "Master Keaton" series does not disappoint. Volume 12 works as a coherent, complete story that takes our hero from his work as an insurance investigator to his passion for archaeology, visiting his skills as an SAS survival instructor along the way. We even get partial closure for his daughter and father. This is a satisfying conclusion to one of my favorite manga series. Now I look forward to re-reading the whole 12 volumes again!

I started reading this and found the beginning a gentle and somewhat nostalgic set of stories appropriate for the last volume. ("Hey, whatever happened to this character? Will Keaton ever find the ancient civilization he has hypothesized? Isn't the father character charming but a bit creepy?")

And then... BAM! We get a full throttle, multi-part, super complicated thriller to end the series. It's as if you get the regular Naoki Urasawa plotline in place of the more "cosy" feel. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit of shock, even to the point where I thought it wouldn't wrap up in this volume. (It does.)
