I really thought this might be a tough, or rather dry book to read, but he made it really simplistic for the reader. I can't believe the amazing good this man has done. I really hope to be able to emulate this man in some small way by helping those around me by promoting good or participating or helping advance good projects like this one.

I hope that his proposal for the future actually happens. He proposes that there be room in the business world for social business instead of just the Profit Maximizing Businesses that there now are. Social business would be different than charities because they would make profit and be able to sustain the business without donations all the while helping the poor. He also proposes that there be a separate stock market for social businesses and that the poor own most of the shares. He has done this with the Grameen Bank and the success of it all is amazing. He's practically wiped away poverty in Bangladesh since the 70's. So inspiring.

Great book for learning what micro-lending is and the anecdotes and stories are wonderful. However, the book could have been condensed to half its length and the writing got tedious at times. Some of the stories were rehashes of previous ones from earlier in the book. It's worth reading the first half but don't force yourself to finish it.

A thoroughly inspirational – almost breathtaking – story of the advent of a micro-lending banking network for the poor. Yunus started this idea in Bangladesh with a personal loan of $27 to a number of desperately poor women. What became Grameen Bank has since loaned billions of dollars to the world’s poor since, mostly to poor women, and with a pay-back rate that exceeds that of “regular” banks. Yunus is a man who simply asked what was possible and would not accept bad or ignorant reasons for why people have to remain in extreme poverty. A beautiful vision and a beautiful book.

This man is my hero. I know that sounds cheesy, but he inspired me to start a micro-credit collective in Managua, Nicaragua while I was in school. The book chronicles his experience as he goes through trial and error of developing the concept of micro-credit. I'm looking forward to reading his latest effort: Creating a World Without Poverty.

How inspiring that such a small thing could have such a large impact on so many lives!
informative inspiring medium-paced

Excellent introduction to the concepts of microfinance. Also interesting insight to Bengali culture and Yunas's life. I recommend this book to everyone. Wether you're familiar with
microfinance, or not, this book is great, easy to read, and so interesting.

This is a fantastic book sharing about the microcredit movement and the struggles of poor people across the world. It was very inspiring.

Grameen Bank sounds like a successful enterprise and an innovative way to address poverty. And I mostly enjoyed the autobiographical aspects of Banker to the Poor. But I didn't really trust that Yunus was providing the full picture or reasonably addressing criticism of his model. As a non-expert, I found it hard at times to know whether to believe him or not.
