The concept of this book was so promising and extremely unique. I was ready to be swept away, but was unfortunately left disappointed.

First of all the prose are very good, the author is clearly talented at writing. The King was the best part of this book and I enjoyed his character very much. Raegan was tolerable…until she wasn’t.

The beginning of a book is crucial to grasping a reader’s attention, but yet the first 150 or so pages dragged. There was not nearly enough world-building to warrant the amount of time that was spent. Truly after that my initial interest never got brought back up fully.

I thought the premise of this book was probably the coolest thing I’ve ever heard of (I love the concept of past lives) but it really missed the mark for me.

Found the character of Raegan to be annoying. Couldn’t get over how frequently she snapped for no reason.  Just unlikeable and as the main character I just couldn’t get into the story because of it

I enjoyed enough to read the second book. I picked this up after hearing it described as bringing back yearning in books. I looove how slow the burn is but it really went on for too long as one sided for me to have gotten what I needed out of it, which made some parts fall really flat for me. Here’s hoping for some real solid groveling in the next book though.

This book has one of the slowest burns!-the lingering touches, longing glances, sneaky peeks omg just stop it😩😭

Majority of the book is focused on world building (so much welsh mythology and slavia folklore!) and fmc’s self-discovery journey. And I absolutely love it when there’s a story behind the book title. Not just a simple meaning or pun but a REAL IN-DEPTH EXPLANATION. No spoilers so you gotta read it to get it🤪

In retrospect, I’m glad I took my time reading this bc the writing is really flowery and I can see why some might dnf (would highly recommend if you’re the see-it-when-you-read-it type)

Side note: author’s favourite word has got to be ‘molasses’😂 ITS IN EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER. The molasses sunlight, the eyes, the air, the tension, the walking, the walls😂🍯

All in all, this is an amazing debut book!

I have never been more annoyed by everything. The foreshadowing was so blunt and could not stand the characters.

How do I explain that this book chewed me up and swallowed me whole in the best of ways. The darkness of the characters, the truth of them and their story. The unending love… it’s just. Perfect.
