The Johns FLASH comics maintain a high level of quality. Worth reading, especially if you read Book 1, because a lot of the storylines started there come back in the later volumes.

Solid superheroics.

The writing is fantastic and the art is great, a really enjoyable read. The writing is good in one definable area, character development. This is especially evident with the villains who are given enough page time to really develop and explain their motivations. This is difficult as villains can easily become one dimensional, especially in a comic as old as Flash. The other part of writing is the story arcs. The main arcs were great and I always enjoy things being set up, and having the payoff much later. Really liked Vol. 1, bring on Vol. 2!

Honestly, I found this to lack the cohesion of books 3-5 in the same series collecting Geoff Johns work on the Flash. Grant it, I understand some context is missing jumping from Book 5 to 6 due to a year or so material taken place not written by Johns. The Rebirth story I admit I found to make more sense now that I’ve read the collections of both Mark Waid’s and Geoff Johns’s runs of the Flash, but I still find it a bit stuffed and lacking even with the context. The tie-ins also didn’t have much emotional depth to the lead heroes. So all together I didn’t find this as fun or memorable as the last few books.

The first half was rather entertaining and fun, but eventually the final Rouges War had a bit too many main plot threads going on for me to care, keep track, and be emotionally invested in, and just fell flat for me.

Highs :
-Long term planning from Johns that pays off.
-The supporting cast (including the Rogues) steals the show
-Scott Kolins detailed artwork, especially when depicting city landscapes.

Lows :
-I was not too crazy about the fill in artists, although Rick Burchett did a solid job on the surprisingly good DC FIRST: FLASH/SUPERMAN #1 .

This second omnibus actually had a solid story line, unforgettable moments and made me sad.

10x better than the first volume.

I like how this large volume is really one long story which continues into the 2nd volume. Events that happen in the first few issues come back around and tie into one large, overarching story. A great start to Geoff Johns run on The Flash.
