Well I definitely did NOT see the ending coming. This book was outside my comfort zone (speculative fiction is not my jam), but I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a really clever exploration of PPMD and the idea of postpartum psychosis. What if a psychotic break could be manifest?

NOT a fan of the serial killer targeting women,
or the video game based on it
or the mother/baby /pregnancy stuff. BUT I Love the idea of a clone solving their own murder. Really kept me guessing until the end, I like the idea of a clone being different than their source human, and I loved how the husband let the clone be weird.

This book is beautifully written! Williams had me hooked from the very beginning and did an excellent job of unwinding the story with beautiful, flowy language. I can't wait to reread this knowing the ending to see what hints I can pick up on that I missed the first time.

If you were let down by Grady Hendrix's The Final Girls Support Grpup but loved the premise, this book will absolutely redeem it for you.

Original, startling, beautifully written speculative crime fiction. I found myself recommending it to a friend who reads in neither genre, though, based purely on the writing. It's literary in its use of language and emotional exploration, but still a propulsive read with plenty of plot that kept me turning pages all night.

Only 280 pages, and I read it in one day, two sittings. I'm impressed by Williams's ability to spin a tale so complete, compelling, and creative in a book of this length. I already had Tell the Machine Goodnight on my radar but hadn't yet gotten around to it because speculative fiction isn't my go-to genre, but after reading My Murder, I'm excited to give it a try.

Disappointing ending. Because the characters were either boring or underdeveloped (maybe both?) the motivations did not stack up to the actions.
