Depicts a refugee's life over the course of over a decade, including chronic hunger and deep poverty. Some readers may like to know how the author's life turned out to get through the more difficult material:

He lives in the USA with his wife and 5 children. They succeeded in finding his long lost mother, who remains a refugee but in contact with them. Hassan has medical care. Maryam is a fictional character composed of stories of other girls.

A fantastic graphic novel about Omar's life in a refugee camp in Kenya. His brother is nonverbal and is prone to seizures. I learned a lot about Omar's life and I loved the author's note at the end from Omar providing resources. Lancaster, PA is close to me and I'll be checking out those resources. Highly recommend!
