3.5 stars! I love being a dummy reader. I love not over analyzing things because it makes reading fun! the way my jaw dropped at least 4 different times in this book from the plot twists to the banter. did i suspect the one plot twist, yeah, but it still caught me by surprise!! the ONLY thing I didn't like about this book was the ending. it felt so rushed and like one minute they hated each other and the next they were forgiven without any talk?? and the last two chapters and epilogue just felt like such a waste after allllllll that 🥲 probably would've been a 4 star if it wasn't for that.

I had high hopes for a fun, quirky romance but this just didn’t hit the mark for me. The writing felt clunky and disconnected, with very little dept to the characters that meant I didn’t really care much about them. The ‘best friend’, Anne was extremely unlikeable - their friendship felt forced and she comes across as incredibly pushy.
The big ‘twist’ I had pegged from about 20% of the way through the book (if that) and it was so very obvious where everything was leading. There was one small twist that I didn’t see coming, so I’ll give props for that.
I loved the idea behind the plot; the childhood pen pals that form a connection through writing mean letters to eachother and allowing themselves to vent to one another at the same time throughout their childhood, adolescence and well into adulthood.
The letters themselves were funny, if a little simple, but I did enjoy this element of the story. The rest of it fell a little too flat for me unfortunately. I just didn’t find it believable that Naomi would up and decide to travel to his childhood home on a whim that was suggested (and very much pushed upon her) by her ‘friend’. From there, despite the easy reading, I found it hard to connect to the story and the writing itself was very one-dimensional.

Very cute, with just enough angst and interesting twists to keep me up until 1am.
