fast-paced
How Do You Like Me Now? is Holly Bourne's debut adult novel and follows the story of best-selling author Tori, and her seemingly perfect and successful life. Having written a self-help book about her twenties, the now 31 year old Tori, is struggling to decide what to do in terms of her career and relationships, especially when all of her friends around her have hit the 'baby and marriage' age. Does she follow in the footsteps of her friends, despite it being against everything she's ever believed in, just to seem successful and fit in with her peers?
How Do You Like Me Now? is a funny and honest adult debut novel. I've seen many people compare it to Bridget Jones' Diary and it certainly has a very similar format in an almost diary perspective, on a month to month basis. I really didn't like Bridget Jones' Diary (ewww I'm so fat at 8 stone, and all my cups of coffee whining), yet How Do You Like Me Now? is a modern, more relevant, less whiny version, with more of a plot and certainly more empowering! I'm perhaps slightly younger than the targeted audience for this book but I really appreciated the honesty that Tori shows, and it was intriguing to see her thought processes in terms of the events that happen throughout the book. This book focuses on aspects of adult life that many other books don't and the pressure that follows with the achievements of those around you. Something refreshing and honest to read!
I've read all of Holly Bourne's YA novels and this adult debut certainly adds to her success. I will for sure pick up any other adult novels she chooses to write and I highly recommend this book - a book with a nice pace and interesting characters, with depth and an intriguing and honest plot!

was excited for more millennial fiction after Hot Mess but actually this one was a bit too old and a bit too miserable for me

3.5 stars - a good and honest story about being in a relationship for the wrong reasons
This book was really honest, which made it quite difficult to put down. The honesty, however, made the narrator feel a little unlikeable to me. Whilst I get that a lot of people are incredibly narcissistic when it comes to social media, this character just felt TOO selfish and TOO superficial. Sometimes her relationship, her food issues and her approach to alcohol felt a little too real... And that's coming from someone in their mid-twenties. I hope to GOD I don't wind up this way when I am in my thirties! It was certainly an interesting quick read but I wouldn't read it again.
