This is one of my favorite meta-technical books that I read early in my career and has helped me immensely. I will go as far as to say, If you need to read one technical book in your career, this should be it.

The book presents broad frameworks on approaching your software career and building good software. There are some fun anecdotal stories “Stone Soup and Boiled Frogs”, top highlights of the chapter marked as Tips to help remember the content, how to deal with software entropy i.e. code rot, building situational awareness, etc. Re-reading the book now (after 10 years in the software industry, working with multiple languages, frameworks, and industries), I’ve come to appreciate the timelessness of its concepts.
informative inspiring

Some of the recommendations in this book show their age, but this book still contains a trove of received wisdom. The experienced developer might have encountered most of this advice, but there are still many techniques that they may have missed along the way, and the review makes this all the more worthwhile. This is a book I will be revisiting throughout my career.
